the father of one of my high school track coaches is looking to sell his 78 alfa alfetta. it is a one owner car and from what i am told in great shape. he just is to old to care for the car anymore. and since i have a 308 they came right to me to see if i was interested. since i missed out buying a 85 gtv6 a couple months ago this would be a great deal. my question is what are these cars worth. i believe it is a "sprint". red on black great condition. been sitting for a little while. from what i can find these are worth between $1500-$2000. is this fair to offer? of course i will be looking at the car this week and checking it out. as with any italian i will be going through the car like its worth 10X more than it really is. thanks for the help. joe

Alfetta's aren't worth much. Most people who like this chassis go for the newer GTV6 which is a much improved vehicle. I have seen really pristine Alfetta's sell for up to $5K, but that was totally redone with rebuilt engine, interior, paint etc. Most average condition Alfetta's, especially ones that have sit for a while, struggle to break $1,500.

Who cares about collectability? We're not talking about a rare or expensive car. Of course a GTV6 will always be worth more, always has and will be. If this car is in good shape, it would be worth it and be fun as a daily driver for around $1500.

A fellow club member bought an old Alfa Berlina - in green no less! - off an old lady. Her husband originally brought it into Canada from Europe many years ago, I think he was the original owner. The car was hardly driven and in fantastic shape (no rust, original vinyl interior, etc), he only did a routine tune-up and its running great. Sure he only paid a few thousand for it, but he bought a really neat, classic car.

as with what peter said. i only buy cars that i like and that "POP" in my mind. i have always liked the alfetta/gtv body. though not thought of as a highly collectable car i like it for what it is. for $1500-$2000 i can have myself a fun little 2+2 that i can drive on the weekends and during the week and not feel SO guilty about stacking on the miles, as i do with my 308. i learned never to look at cars as a investment. that takes the fun out of them. cars are cars, NOT the stock market.

You're right. After all, I've had a few not-so-collectable Saabs.
Besides, anybody that uses an avatar like yours is obviously a genius.
