about what i expected, 70-75k with the usual options.....the key for me will be how much better the 6 speed tranny , the steering feel and the handling is vs the c6, which i have been disappointed with on three seperate drives....and of course, the other big question is production numbers, which will ultimately determine new and used car prices and availablity...i am sure we will get the intial dealer massive mark ups until the hype dies andthe production ramps up....this seems to happen with most hot new sports cars...i have been promised a test drive when the first one comes in by a friend who owns a chevy dealership;;;;;i cant wait/.////............

I wouldnt pay that kind of money for a vette. Id rather buy an Ultima GTR or a factory five GTM with that money.

Ultima, I've got one of those too. It is way more money than the Z06. 56K bought me the kit without the motor, transaxle and tires. The time to assemble it is 2-3 years. Your looking at about 100 when your looking at an Ultima (labor not included).

As before, I'm a fan of these cars and look forward to getting one. Keeping the Ferrari and the Ultima. They are all sure to offer different experiences. There is no way to deny that this new Corvette is a great car, regardless of the price.

66 grand for the new Z06 is an amazing deal.

The 3 grand option package looks like a waste to me.

Dam fine car and those who get one surely won't be disappointed. IMHO

GM has a sales target of approximately 5,000 Z06s a year, which is about 15-20% of total production.

I think they will be able to nail it first year, easy. Subsequent years...not too sure.

Chevy announces Corvette Z06 0-60 mph time and base price
    June, 13th, 2005
    www.gminsidenews.com

DETROIT – The ultimate Corvette—the 2006 Corvette Z06—is posting numbers at the track and on the window sticker that will get attention. Chevrolet has announced that the fastest Corvette ever—the 505-horsepower Corvette Z06—will achieve 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds while still in first gear, and pricing will start at $65,800, including destination and freight charges.

“Corvette is a global icon for world-class sports car performance at an incredible value, and offering the fastest production Corvette ever at this price is another testament to that reputation,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “When you compare the Corvette Z06 performance stats to other supercars, you see numerous examples where you’re getting better performance with Corvette for one-third the sticker price of the competition.”

Developed alongside the Corvette C6.R race car, the Corvette Z06 uses advanced lightweight materials typically found only in the most exotic supercars. Use of weight-saving materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, titanium and magnesium give the 3,132-pound car a highly competitive weight-to-power ratio of 6.2 pounds per horsepower.

“The new Corvette Z06 is the dividend from competing so successfully in endurance racing,” said Dave Hill, Corvette’s chief engineer. “It combines the strong attributes of the new, sixth-generation Corvette with the spirit, technology and know-how from the race program to form an American supercar with outstanding credentials.” The highly anticipated Corvette Z06, which will be available in the fourth quarter of 2005, completes the sixth-generation portfolio, which also includes the 400-hp Corvette coupe and convertible.

Previous Corvette Z06 models, from the original 1963 model to the 2001-04 editions, incorporated suspension and engine upgrades that complemented existing Corvette systems. The 2006 Corvette Z06 is more differentiated from the standard Corvette than any other Z06 in history with every design element serving a performance function.

    Corvette Z06 features include:
LS7 7.0-liter/427-cubic-inch Gen IV V-8 engine with lightweight reciprocating components
    505 horsepower (373 kw) @ 6300 rpm
    470 lb.-ft. of torque (657 Nm) @ 4800 rpm
    6-speed manual transmission,
    7000 rpm redline
Aluminum body structure with one-piece hydroformed perimeter rails frame and magnesium engine cradle
Carbon-fiber composite front fenders, front wheelhouses and floors
    Dry-sump engine lubrication system
Hand-built engine at GM’s new Performance Build Center
Unique design styling that includes a larger grille, cold-air scoop and lower air splitter, wide-body front and rear fenders and a taller rear spoiler
Engine, transmission and differential oil coolers and steering cooler
For all its race-inspired functionality, the Corvette Z06 also is designed to be refined as a daily driver with a sophisticated and comfortable interior and generous cargo volume. The Z06 will be offered in Machine Silver Metallic, Victory Red, Daytona Sunset Orange, Le Mans Blue Metallic, Velocity Yellow Tintcoat and Black exterior colors.

General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world’s largest automaker, has been the global industry sales leader since 1931. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 321,000 people around the world. It has manufacturing operations in 32 countries and its vehicles are sold in 200 countries. In 2004, GM sold nearly 9 million cars and trucks globally, up 4 percent and the second-highest total in the company’s history. GM’s global headquarters are at the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit. You got a nice car.

After a few years when the Z06 drops in price it will be a great car but i wouldnt pay 65k for a vette because i know for a fact its going to drop in value. Just think about 3years from now im sure they will be running in the mid 40s used in mint contion. That would be a steal!.

    It's a great car.

Unlike BMW with the M3/5/6, they take a real (bargain) sportscar, and turn into a viper/fcar eater.
Of course it's not very subtle, there aren't acres of technical advances inside or fine leather, but the result is here.

You are absolutely correct. It doesn't matter who builds the kit, production cars are light years more finished than kit or component cars.

To say this car will be anything but a track weapon is foolish. Current Z06 models in compitent hands can be a handful to keep up with as is. As others have said, its a bargin. Heck I bet you can shed 150lbs off the thing w/o a problem........and wait until Pratt & Miller does there thing with it!!!

Amazing. It’s a good bit more than the C5 Z06, but it seems completely worth it, considering what you are getting in the car. I just hope they can escape some of the horrible dealer mark-ups. I went in a Ford dealer recently, and the first thing the salesman thought of telling me was, "Yah, you can expect to pay $2000 over list for the Mustang GT, so just go ahead and think of $29K as $31K"

The thing that impresses me most, the 7000rpm redline in a reliable, street, push-rod motor. Does anyone know if that's the first production pushrod V8 with a 7000rpm redline?

I think so, but there were some 427 big blocks back in the 60's with 6800 rpm redlines.

Your guys sure about that? When i first saw the new C6 in person i thought the quality of the car was much worrse than that of a kitcar. I have been around many kits before and the quality of some of them arent so bad and no diffrent of that of a custom hotrod.

I guess you can't expect to much from a car that suppose to the best bang for the buck deal after all its only a chevy.

Pantera, you can be real funny at times. :D

To those who don't know who Pantera is, the guy is a kit car authority.
If he says the C6 is worse than a kit car than it's worse. :)

well he is talking about kit cars whose interiors compare to custom hotrods. I have seen hotrods whose interiors put every production car to shame. There really should be no comparisons made between kit and production.

First you ruin LPower now FChat. We're all quite sure that one back yard idiot can build a better quility car than the worlds 2nd largest company with thousands of engineers and a multibillion dollar assembly line. Most all kit cars are junk except for the partial kits such as the Ultima that are only missing the drivetrain. A real Mustang is light years ahead of the best kit car.

I have never seen a kit car within 10% of a FOOSE hot rod.

It's rather obvious you've never been near a C6 nor any kitcars.

Regarding my comment about kit cars, it's not the just the quality that I was getting at, perhaps you should refer to "k wright's" post.
