For those familiar with this key, I often use it to capture something on which I can't simply right click and "save as"... However, oddly enough, the print screen function does not work (to my liking) when trying to capture an image in Windows Media Player... Why...?

Here's what happens... I play a video in WMP; I pause it and hit print screen to capture the image I want to post. I then ctrl+v the image into Paint and it pastes exactly as I've captured it. When I go to move it, to crop off the edges I don't need, the movie part of the image stays in place while everything else moves in front of it. It's weird...!

I have tried all manner of capturing images from WMP and none work. I have pasted an image into Paint, then captured that image, only to still find it won't properly paste and/or save. I've pasted directly into Photoshop, I've pasted into Paint, captured in Paint and then pasted into Photoshop - all with the same result.

When I try to save without moving the image around, and then I go to open the image again to crop, the screen where the image appeared in the picture is then all black.

So I ask again: why does this happen...? Is there a way around it, so I can successfully capture an image in a WMP movie...?

Windows print screen doesn't understand the codecs used in wmp.

Your best bet is to open the media file in a 3rd party player like powerdvd, windvd, etc... that have built in screen capture abilities.

I was afraid that might be the answer... Unfortunately, it doesn't work in WinAmp either and WinAmp and Windows Media Player are the only two media players I have patience for...

I had this problem as well, I was trying to capture DVD movie bits & my system was doing the same thing. Then I explored the software a bit more & found a scene capture button on of my players. Problem solved but now I getting a more condensed capture of image I'm try to save. This has only happened with certain DVD’s so it maybe something in the software. The only thing I can recommend is just trying to find a screen capture program, some can be found online or you maybe surprised that might already exist on your system.

    Example:
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Maybe God's intervening because he feels that you shouldn't be putting this much effort into the bikini thread.

Search for "Media Player Classic" on Google. Download that. You will be able to play anything and take screen shots. To take screen shots, you pause the video. And go to File -> Save Picture As.

it's not a security thing or anything, it's because windows nowadays uses a video overlay thing to play vids, which is part of direct draw or something and *not seen* by the regular pixels of windows.

it's hard to get your head around for a while, but after doing some video editing it starts to become clearer how it werks.

easiest bet is to download virtualdub (free) as with that it's easy to navigate a video frame by frame and it's a simple CTRL-1 to copy the current frame.

Just press C in PowerDVD to take screenshots. Have to go easy on pressing C though - each screengrab is several MB. :)

I've taken screenshots in Windows Media Player by adjusting the video acceleration under Tools - Options - Performance. After turning it down I hit print screen and paste it in my imaging software.
