I want to have a few of my shots printed. Which website is the best?
And what is the best size to print on without losing quality?

I would like to have something at least as big as my screen (27 In).

Costco is a great source for printing small to large for inexpensively.

Any of the big online players will also do a nice job as well.

If you are in Chicago near a Costco it's worth the membership for that if you want to be able to deal with a person directly should there be any problems.

You mean will it be portrait with your image stretched? No. A huge drawback to Costco is the lack of choices. You can do glossy or semi matte, but there are no other paper options. A camera/print shop is a much better option. I assume this is something you may put on your wall, best to be happy with it. Do it with something nice like gold fibre silk (paper).

Even better: invest in a printer and make your own. I'm much happier with the results I'm getting now that I'm in control of the entire process (including color calibration).

For a long time I used Costco. Now I look at those prints with incredulity. Their dyesub process simply doesn't hold up to a quality giclee print.

Is that one of those prints on sheet aluminum or is it metallic paper?

Metallic paper, though I'm still trying to find a printer that will print on plastic, similar to what Peter Lik does, but I think this is going to be as close as I get.

I use metallic paper as well (the print above is an example).

I asked because there are outfits that print on aluminum (not exactly sure how it works). Check out www.imagewizards.net.

This is my first with metallic paper and definitely a big improvement over traditional paper.

Thanks for that link, signed-up and waiting to hear back, a little afraid of what the prices will be though.

I just found out that Mpix Pro does the exact same acrylic printing that Miller's does. I don't know if I'm a big fan of the mounting, I'd rather just put it in a frame.

Agreed. It would be kinda cool to backlight it, but traditional framing would be outrageously expensive given the thickness.

I'm really happy with the inkpress paper I've been using at home. It catches the light in an intense way. Here's my most recent print:

I'll definitely be getting some metallic prints from Mpix soon, and possibly an acrylic print as well. I'll post pictures of them when they arrive.

I've gotten some pretty good results at home as well, but I'm stuck at 8.5x11s and I don't do enough to justify a bigger/better printer.

That's a great shot, I'll be going to Bermuda at the beginning of August so I'm hoping to have some really great print and frame worthy shots from that trip.

How much are you spending on prints?

My printer cost about 200 and will do 13x19 borderless. Ink costs quite a bit though.

The picture I posted was $100, it's 12x24, metallic paper and framed. The print itself was $20.

It is a joy to print your own photos. Watch your work spit out in front of you. I was using a Epson R 1800. My new one is a Epson Pro 3880. 19 x 22's. I then have them mounted on foam core board and shrink wrapped. $4. You can't frame them all. I am surrounded by 75+ mounted photos. Some 12 x 19. Most 19 x 22. Get them out of that computer so you and your friends can enjoy.

Nice, that does the heavyweight cotton rag type stuff right?

Mine (Epson 1400) can't handle thick paper.
