Would love to get the collective group's thoughts on the best private tracks in the US. We've all seen the press for Monticello. Are there any like that being built in the Northeast or anywhere else around the country?

    Thanks!

I've always heard about some NorthEast ones, but never been to one.

I would be interested in this as well.

Limerock is a semi private track. Shares are being sold through "The Limerock Club" that provide exceptional track access to club members only. Not sure if that qualifies as your definition of "private".

+1 on Limerock Club... a buddy and I have been considering joining. I continue to push the management there to consider "developing" the land around the track with townhouses that get you membership to "The Club"... I want a townhouse in the country, a place to park my Ferrari, and a place to get some track time in... what better place than at Limerock. I know a few individuals that would be interested in this as well. Limerock is a great track, even if it is semi-private.

Wish i knew which tracks were private versus public. Never really cared much i guess. Laguna, VIR, Road America...

As for what others have gone OT to say: There various tracks being built, or trying to with all the NIMBY problems. SCCA is building one in MA, then there is Club Motorsports (Tamworth, NH) winning all the legal battles against a NIMBY group. If i was going to build a track, the NE region would not be my choice due to weather conditions that are harsh on the surface plus the limited months of operation due to snow/ice.

As for track memberships, etc: Personally, unless you actually OWN a percentage of the ACTUAL track i'd avoid any membership. IMHO it makes no financial sense to feed the pockets of other investors and CAREFULLY READ the legal agreements of these memberships and see what your lawyer has to say once s/he reads it.

Is Mt. Tremblant in Quebec still privately owned? By a well-known member of the F-car community? I haven't been there since the new owner refurbished it but that was a beautiful area to spend vacation time (weather permitting, of course).

The numbers just don't add up. Besides if your such a devoted track junkie you will want to sample as many tracks possible. The dues alone could pay for many track days with various clubs. I should mention im basing most of this on LRP's membership costs. Some others might be more reasonable.

Nope, i am a 'member' of the eventual Club Motorsport track and you are spot on. My membership fee alone coulda bought many SCCA track events. Then you have the monthly fees for membership, that alone is another few events each year. 100% agree with you, just attend events, let the fools (like me in a moment of stupidity) buy in to the membership.

See you guys at NHMS this weekend for the SCCA races? i'll be at bay #6.

Steven...can't get up there this weekend. But look for Nick. He's got a buddy of his in a 240Z with a fresh engine gunning for him. I'll tell him you'll be there.

    Have a great weekend
