How much is it to rent for a day?

I'd be interested. I was involved in a private track day at Buttonwillow last fall and it was a blast. There were 13 of us, it was $300 each, and we had the whole track to ourselves all day. No corner or ambulance workers however. I assume Thunderhill prices are similar.

Gary, that seems a fair price. I'd definitely be interested.

Can I offer some unsolicited, perhaps unwanted, advice?

Spend the extra $ and have a fire/crash crew & EMS there.

    Trust me on this...

I think that's good advice, maranelloman. One can never be too safe. I think the experience Gary and I had at the Delta Dash reinforces the importance of readily accesible EMS.

I thought about it, and decided I was o.k. with the situation. No numbskulls, no wheel-to-wheel, probably all things considered a lot safer than canyon carving, where you don't have an ambulance follow you down the road.

I understand, Gary. Just saying that, with a lot of track experience, there is no way in hell I would drive any vehicle on any track w/o a crash crew & EMS...even if I was totally alone on the track. It is a very dangerous sport, and seconds count in an emergency. Heck, on a track with lots of elevation changes, I won't even go out w/o a bare minumum of corner workers either!

    Enjoy!

Yes, Thunderhill can be rented for a private group, but it is quite expensive. You have to send in an up front deposit, and it takes a minimum of about 40 drivers at about $250 per day to break even. Also, the tracks are so popular that time gets booked up well in advance. The weekends at Thunderhill have pretty much been taken a while ago.

The Ferrari Club is going to be having some track events this year including Thunderhill. I suspect there will be room. Keep an eye on the COMING EVENTS on our Web site.

You have to use your head at the track just like anywhere else. It's not a red-mist qualifying for the championship day, it's a day where you can legally have the kind of fun you'd never dare on the street. If you keep your head straight there is nothing inherently dangerous about running your car at the track. Between the Ferrari club and the Rennlist Porsche boys, here in the Bay Area in the last few weeks we've had two serious fly-off-the-road accidents on casual drives. Not having corner and accident personnel would never stop me from having fun at the track with the right guys.

This is good advice. Tish happens REALLY fast and when you least expect it, even on a private race track. I have (unfortunatly) been witness to a couple of testing incidents. We will not test without EMT guys at a track. (We did have to wake them up once to get them into action though..but it was a helluva a lot quicker than getting someone from Glen med Center (Willows hospital), even if it is only 5 miles down the road.)

I'm not trying to scaremonger anyone here. Just get a few more people together and do it properly. Even consider splitting the cost of a good driver coach.

If you want a reality check, have a look at the sfrscca In-Memory-Of page.

    Be safe, Have fun!

Thunderhill like Buttonwillow is pretty safe track, no walls in sight and pretty good runoffs. I have never been to Buttonwillow but at Thill I would definitely look for flaggers because there are some blind corners. It is fun track but a bit too far; you must definitely go the night before.

By the way, NCRC still has some openings for their Sunday 2/27 open track day at Thill. I have had a few track days with them last year, they are a bunch of nice people.

BW and T'Hill aren't cheap to rent, as Gil mentioned. LG collector offered me a day, and b/w 15 people it was closer to $1k IIRC.

BTW, dave is absolutely right - there's no way we should be buying time w/o insurance + ambulance / corner workers.

I thought you weren't even ALLOWED to do that anymore? IE it is mandatory by law?
