Alright here's one for you guys. Any one know any more details on this. If it's not right to post in public it would be nice to know via PM. My dad was telling me about a track in the middle of nowhere that he sees as he is flying out of Mudgee. It is west of Wyong, just south of Kulnura. All I have found out about it is that the owner uses it to exercise his Mclaren F1. Is this up to date description or is that a while ago? Here's a pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login
For some reason the name Dean Wills keeps popping into my head... I think I can recall reading about a private place to play he was thinking of building, perhaps this shot is the proof?? No buildings around it to speak of to hide the cars from the sun though?? And it seems a very narrow track...
There are two buildings, the white one is part of the property and there is a second large shed in the trees just left and below of centre which isn't visable. Kulnura is probably about 20km's north west of Gosford. So probably just over an hour out of Sydney.
I wasnt thinking of passing room, more about runoff... the straights being so close together probably restricts multiple cars on there at once anyway
That's what I thought too, a colleague of mine has visited the property (visit with family friends or something) and seen all the cars in the garage not to mention been on his track (pax in a WRX). I've seen a few pics of his and they were taken about 5-6 years ago? It was when the McLaren F1 was in his possession. Then again I have no idea if anyone else has a private track and if so, whether they have an F1. AFAIK there is only one example in the country, the ex-Wills car (#009)
Whereis, doesnt have it on its maps, suggesting its something fairly new. I googled the street closest to the track, but it turned up nothing. Looks like the lucky owner has his own track and doesnt have to worry about when he can use it The track looks narrow, because Cam hasnt zoomed in proper and its not in the middle of nowhere, there is plenty of industrial buildings/warehouses just to the left. With a main road nomore than 1km away.
woah, thats a nice find there cam! That certinaly looks like a beaut track. Where abouts is Mudgee? Ive heard of the place, but cant quite remember where abouts it is. That would be the life though, to have your own track, right next to your house
http://www.zoomin.com.au/australia/nsw/kulnura/ Follow George Downes Drive from Kulnura(south) about 2km down to the right you can see the track on the map(may need to zoom in once). Its off Barnes Rd.
from our own software & street maps.. View 1: local detail with surrounding roads View 2: with respect to central coast Have bookmarked location so will know when to look over the fence when driving that way and software will alert me.. that's cool. where's your data from? psma...? the data i use is from mapinfo (supplied by guv) so i can't publish my application for public use, but i made an awesome browser-based mapping app a couple years ago (pre googlemaps etc) and it's still better than anything out there for most stuff without having developed it for ages. i'll be a free agent soon so have been thinking about sourcing a cheaper dataset and making map apps for folks... there's loads of stuff coming about soon which will be highly location-based, be silly to not want a piece of that pie.
Hi Ash, Yes in that case streets are from psma loaded into our app for vehicle tracking. Also do version for targa stage timing, and for lap analysis. Just acquire the raw track data with gps hardware and all the rest is software.. have used to great effect in East Coast Targa 2004 etc.. This business been doing location based for some time now, pioneered mobile location content and licenced to Optus in 2000 and have mega categorised content, phone numbers etc on top of street addresses, street maps etc. All accessed in various ways, eg data powering website "find nearest" (as used in eBay, carsales, kfc etc etc) software (desktop), content (mobile) etc. and more to come. Yes this stuff finally coming of age and you will see lots of players here for sure.. already seeing google etc weighing in and all very very inevitable so no surprises there and LOTS of good stuff in this sector to come together in the next 3-5 years.. I run a neat system I use in my car, and people are becoming more aware of it through basic nav systems u see on the retail shelf, and we have many interesting proposals and quotes going to combine it into extremely worthwhile ways to companies who are wanting to improve the way they do things and our other main arm is for consumer content and access and we have major rollouts adding to the armoury.. PM me with your details and plans if you wanted.. Alex.
Why? to get her to investigate hoons thrashing cars in the bush and calling for them all to be cornfeskated????
Hey Ash, maybe you might be able to help make the mapping file for my Ferrari Becker GPS unit so that it might be able to work in Oz?
