I am considering doing the exhaust & test pipe on my 328 but I am unsure on the consequences if any? Some guys say you loss torque, it runs hotter, How is the set up in Itay? Do they run tests pipes with the exhaust? Any replies would be very helpful in my discission.

    Thank You

I have a stebro test pipe with the stock silencer. I'm thinking about installing a stebro silencer this winter.I have noticed an increase in performance with the test pipe, but I am not expecting much more from the silencer. I've been told to expect around 10%. I have not been told to expect less torqe or over heating issues.

    Pros-

More exhaust flow = more power.

    Cons-

    Emissions

o2 sensor might trip the ecu to throw a code.

10% hp gain is around 30 hp. I highly doubt that. Especially on a N/A engine. I would say maybe 5 hp.

I've run dyno runs with both the stock cat and a test pipe. No significant difference. The car will be louder, and much more odorous. It won't pass emissions in certain territories. There are no codes on the 328, as there is no OBD system. The 02 sensor is before the cat on US 328s.

On the positive side, you'll be at a lower risk for fire if you have a single-bank ignition failure. To me, this alone is worth the conversion. I put the cat back on for the yearly emission testing. See pic below -- not my car, thank goodness!
