Ok, I'm gonna hide behind my chair after saying this because some of you are probably gonna kill me but, Is there a ferrari factory in modena or maranello? ok ok calm down, what I'm saying is that I have read so many things saying that the home of the ferrari factory is in modena, but I have seen pictures of the ferrari factory in maranello. basically what I'm getting at is next summer, I'm going to Italy, where I am obviously going to modena and maranello. Where can I go to see the factory (if I can, or do I have to be invited or sign up for a tour? if yes how much is it for 3 people?)? And I wanna go to the museum... ok into hiding I go....

Not stupid at all...I'm going to Italy for Christmas and wanted to try and visit the factory, but I'm not sure where the factory is exactly. I'd like to know as well.

It's a reasonable question, it is kind of confusing. The Ferrari factory, headquarters, test track, and race team are in Maranello. What's in Modena is Stabilimenti Scaglietti, the coachbuilder (once owned by Scaglietti himself, Ferrari bought it and took over in the 70s I think.) The coachwork for most Ferraris is done in Modena, the engine and driveline manufacturing and final assembly is done at Maranello.

Unfortunately, if you want a factory tour, you have to be on very good terms with a dealer. They have to "sponsor" your tour, as far as I know.

Modena was the seat of Enzo's pre WW2 racing theam, the original Scuderia Ferrari.

It remained the legal seat of S.E.F.A.C. for a long time, I believe it has now been moved to Maranello but not sure.

Enzo owned a piece of land in Maranello, very near to Modena where he built a machine factory after his dispute with Alfa Romeo right before WW2. During the war the factory produced mechanical parts for the Italian army which made Enzo a VERY wealthy man.

The company was called Auto Avio Costruzzioni (AAC) because Enzo was not allowed to be active in te car industry under his name (a consequence of his contract with Alfa Romeo). This is also the company that produced the AAC 815 (the ""first Ferrari" that wasn't allowed to be called Ferrari!).

When the term in the contract expired, the company's name was turned into Ferrari (which was in 1948 I believe) or officially SEFAC. The main factory and entrance are still located at the very same place in Maranello.

Enzo also owned a piece of land in the village of Fiorano which is where the Fiorano track is located (opened in 1972). On Google Earth you can see both the entrance of the catory and track in one shot as Fiorano borders on Maranello and the entrances are only a few hundred meters away from eachother.
