this may not be good help but here goes:

to remove wax, with a sure fire way of always working even on deep pile carpet [hold on, wait for the shoe to drop]
    1. use BROWN paper bags ONLY: no other type paper seems to work, just cheap brown grocery bags.
    2. split it open to expose as much surface as possible: you will use a lot, be surprised how much wax is there.
    3. put iron on high, NO STEAM.
    4. put paper over wax spot, and iron onto the paper
    5. as soon as the wax melts and the paper soaks it up, you'll see the wet spot, move the paper to get a 'fresh spot' and repeat #4-5 until satisfied.
    Now for the shoe:
Reason I mention this is the glass-temper can problaby handle the iron especially if the glass is pre-heated in the Sun for awhile.

I know others will have a different approach, like scrubbing, or don't like the head idea, but this method I mention has been used on all sorts of surfaces [wax on wall/paint from overspilled candles] to leather....of course the method needs to be a bit fast on the leather.

(Rik, read his post, this is glass/plexi not carpet,, but, I should have you travel to Colorado to remove a nice wax stain left on the carpet,, in one of my rental homes.) ;)

Pardon my ignorance, is the 360 Engine cover glass or plastic?
FWIW,,,, Meguiars makes a plastic polish for plexiglass..

I'd be careful with the iron since the side vents with the hexagon shaped holes around the glass are plastic and melting these with an accidental touch of a hot metal iron would cost you big time.

Did you try goof off a small area? Be careful with this too as It might mar the finish on surrounding areas?

A general rule of thumb at my detail shop is to remove something like this with whatever caused it. Get some more of the same product and wipe it on the affected area
If it is real glass, not plexi or plastic, the you can use steel wool. Steel wool has various grades. get some "00" or "000". Put a little polish or wax to add as a lubricant and it will clean anything off of any glass

Fine steel wool on glass. I use it to clean bugs off the windshield.

It will ruin plastic. Test a spot out of the way first.

Let us know what the result is.

How about a wax remover for paint. The Griot's paint prep or maybe Acryli-clean from PPG as was suggested on another thread. I can't imagine they could harm glass or plexiglass. I can't see how getting wax of glass would be hard but maybe this will help? Good luck

Just use warm water and dish sopa it will cut the wax, follow up with glass cleaner, it shouldn't be a problem.

For stubborn stuff, I find that Griot's claybar with a little Speed Shine, works great at removing stuff off glass.

I know, thus the comment of 'wait for the shoe to drop' which is to mean, I believe the glass can withstand the temp of an Iron...we are not talking a large amount of heat here, just enough to get the wax melted which is VERY fast and soaked up....if the glass is warmed in the sun the chance of dis-jointed heating is minimal ... but I also believe the glass is meant to be tempered to enjoy high engine temps....I believe this should work and I would try it, BUT, like I said, this solution most likely won't be tried by anyone here for numerous reasons....just my 2cents....

PS: Do I get to stay in the rental...sounds like a delightful road trip :\

This is true, especially if you use Dawn. It will cut right through the wax.

What about those scrapers you use for cleaning glass-ceramic hotplates? They are designed for scraping away everything off glass materials while not damaging them.
