I need some help guys. My fuel door wasn't opening when the fuel release button was pushed on the inside, so I used the manual release in the back. It sprung the door, but the knob didn't spring back so now the door doesn't shut. Anyone know how to get the knob to come back out, and what might be the cause of this problem? Its a 90 348. Thanks.

Many here have had the same issue. It typically is due to a lack of lubrication on the pin that holds the door shut. Spray a bit of WD-40 or a bit of grease on the pin.

You need to manually push the T-handle back in. This will push the "catch" thing back in place to hold the door shut.

I have the T-handle pushed back in all the way, but the knob is not moving back into place. Do you know if there is a spring involved with the manual release?

I had this problem as well. The knob stuck open. Use a pair of needlenose pliers to ease it back out then spray with WD40 and work it in an out repeatedly to get the spray worked into the back. You may have to use a fair bit of WD40 to make sure it gets into the back of the housing. Put a paper towel under the gas filler and the housing to pick up errant spray.

Mine just started doing the same thing. If I open the deck lid I can fiddle with the manual opener until it pops back out. But I got to lazy, so I just grab it with my finger and pull it out. I'll just live with it until it bugs me enough to fix it.

Mine is doing the same! I think this means we are not driving them enough and therefor not opening the fuel filler often enought to keep the contacts clean.
Has anyone taken apart this switch to clean the contacts? This is on the F-Car winter project list already.

I haven't taken mine out yet, but it is easy. There is only one screw that holds it in place. However you need to remove the upper part of the wheel well splash guard to get to it. I my take it out next week sometime, to fool wit it.

I'm interested in how you make out with the fuel door. If you're able, keep me posted.

Thanks to all for your responses.
