It looks to me like the entire duct has shifted over and the gasket material stayed where it should have. Kind of odd isn't it?

Astounding that this should happen to a new Ferrari!

    Contact Craig AKA 4Yacht.

Guaranteed he'll know what to do.

Look at www.craigtimm.com and see what he does.

IMO quality has slipped a bit since F is trying to crank out these cars. A friend just got a spider recently and I noticed that they forgot to paint some brackets near the exhaust tips for example. Have the dealer fix this the next time you take it in.

The black 'edge' you see on the left side of the picture is the foam gasket strip, not the actual duct itself. The duct seems to be in place. I'm guessing there must be some excessive vibration causing this, but if so, how could it ever get fixed properly if it's simply going to vibrate out again?

No problem here. They're just going to have to take their time and do it right.

Well, this is a Spider as well. I think if it were a coupe, it'd be much easier to replace myself. Since all that retractable roof stuff is in the way, the Spider would be much more difficult to attempt this myself.

I mention this because I have to flatbed the car about 200 miles to get to a nearby dealer. If it's relatively simple, I'd just do it!

I see, if you can, just wait till more important stuff comes up too.

This is a very simple and fairly common small manufacturing defect. The duct simply gets out of the intake vent assembly on the body itself. The white you see on the picture is part of the insulation plastic foam around it. Usually it is glued around the edges of the assembly's outer ring and has a fastener. If you took the back wheel and liner out, you could easily reach the duct to put it back in place yourself. However it will probably re-shift itself out of position if its not fastened properly. Usually, it is the fastener that gives in and gets loose and allows the duct to get out of place. This is quite a common issue on many other Fcars specially as they get older and enough vibration stress has accumulated over time. I've seen it on 348s, 355s and specially on 360s when the assembly block is almost identical to the F430.

The dealer will take care of it for you in a snap. Its a 30 minute fix and you'll be set ;)

I have noticed the same problem on '05 F430 coupe. I'm taking it to the dealer this coming Monday - so I will let you know what happens. I hope you are right about the "30 minute" fix.

Richard, show them this thread if they have questions... they won't... When I say a "30 minute" fix, I mean of course, its something they can do fast and on the same day once they start working on the car. I've personally known of 3 other F430s with this issue and all of them were fixed basically on the spot. They'll take care of you nicely... you'll be fine ;)

bringing it in this coming Monday. I'll let you know how the fix goes. I showed this thread to my dealer. They said they had not seen the problem before. I walked into their showroom and a 430 spider on display had the exact same problem. I only noticed it on mine while looking into my sideview mirror and saw the rubber seal flapping.
