Hi, Since I havent driven much yet I am not sure, but I think I can feel something shifting during gear change. I guess it could be a lot of things, but since the car has somewhat of a "rumbling" at idle I was thinking engine mounts. Is this a part that usually break on these cars? Any other obvious things that should be checked? Regards, Johan
Definitely a week spot the engine mounts have been upgraded think from memory the cost for a new set was $150 or so. I would just bite the bullet and replace them not a difficult job if you have a trolley jack and can handle a wrench it will take you longer to remove the under tray (real PITA) than chancing the E mounts that's if your working on the ground. Cheers
Look in the rear view mirror while making the "shifting" sensation during gear changes (or have a passenger video it). There shouldn't be appreciable engine motion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A known issue--I found them on line for $300 a pair, and did the replacement in an hour (I have a lift). I believe the cause of the relatively quick failures is that the mounts are about 3" from the exhaust manifolds with no heat shields like the ones on the 458. I plan to add heat shields next time I change the oil.
Thanks guys, very appreciated! I tried to look as best as I can in the rear view mirror, and the engine moves so much that I can see it. Maybe I can make sure by having a friend look only at the engine. The car accelerates so fast that I can't keep the eyes off the road! I'll report back! Regards, Johan
It would be great if you could get it on a lift--remove the panel, then using a 2X4 or if you're a pro, a transmission Jack, and lower the car just a bit with the jack or 2X4 under the tranny. You will quickly and easily see if your mounts are bad.
Hi, now I had time to look more closely, and it looks to shift about 0,5" or around 15 mm for you europeans. It's hard to say exactly how much, but it is clearly moving. This is just going on and off the gas, I havent looked when I shift. The parts seems very inexpensive, the two engine mounts is about $100 each, and the two gearbox mounts I could find is around $50 a piece. Regards, Johan
Hi guys, I took the car to a friend with a lift today, and together we replaced the engine mounts. Mine were totally shot! Please see picture. Nothing held the engine to the chassis! Not much before either, it is maybe a 1/4" thick rubber piece holding the engine, which should be replaced at least every 10 k miles or so. At the same time we found a broken exhaust bracket, that my friend welded up for me. The driving experience was monumentally better, no vibrations at startup, no clunky gear shifts anymore! What a great improvement for $250 in parts and three hours labor. Just a friendly advice; ask your service guy to check the engine mounts during your next service! It can be done in 5 minutes, just jack each side of the engine up (with the engine tray gone) and see if it stays in place or not. My guess is not! Regards, Johan Image Unavailable, Please Login
I know it doesn't help now but maybe others. I've just bought 430 Challenge engine mounts for my 360 from a main dealer at about £55 for both sides including new bolts. My 360 omes are a bit compressed and it's been picked up as an observation on the last two services. The new ones look identical to the ones that are fitted.
Sh#t a brick mate! they are well and truly proper fuct, ur top of the leader board worst engine mounts I've seen.
