Miller Motors and Werner have done nothing wrong here and its unfortunate that there is even a thread titled "problem with Miller Motors" Where I come from, you consumate a deal with a contract and money.

I've had the same thing happen to me, and I filed it under "life happens".
    Werner didn't do anything unethical.

    Let it up for air.

Things happen for a reason which you may not be aware of at the time. For you, Ken, a better car is coming. Karma.

Ken,.....sorry you missed on a Ferrari,...could be the curse of the mark.

    Spot on.
It may be disappointing to the prosepective buyer, but he is just that, a prospect.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised that the thread is still alive.

The title was, at a bare minimum, an unfortunate choice.

Kens camp here and that would be unlikley to happen at a reputable dealer here in the UK.

If the dealer requires terms or security then as the professional he should say so, to accept and agree to the sellers request for a trial knowing and allowing him to incur costs should at least allow him the courtesy and is probably enough to constitute a verbal contract.

He would not be expected to part with any money untill he is fully satisfied which is the purpose of the visit.

Surely this is the only way any decent person would conduct themselves and without this business ethic a dealer here would not be able to rise above the rank of Car shark.

...people are expressing "outrage"?......c'mon Ken, really, the guy would go broke waiting on approvals from a prospective buyers wife, ex-wife, dog, relatives etc....you should have simply locked it up with a refundable deposit if you truly wanted it. I am sorry, but you have no right to impugn anyones integrity on the internet for what you are describing. Just my opinion...

I think it is quite simple if you put no cash down you have no first option on the car.

To the OP, simple negligence on your part. Your traveling to see a car and not making arrangements to make sure it is there when you get there. Then you post a derogatory thread about the seller. Shame on you. To say anyone other than you is outraged is absurd.

I appreciate all the comments--those who agree with me--and those who do not agree.

I thought Mr. Pfeister's word was good--and I confirmed my appointment with him a couple of days later. I do try to see both sides of all conflicts & maybe I should have
offered a deposit--which I would have gladly given to him. I am not a car dealer---
and this would be the second classic car that I ever bought----
shouldn't Werner have said something like "Give me a deposit & we will tie
    up the car??? "

I assumed, with all the good things that I had heard about him, that his
word was good enough to tie the car up. Apparently not.

Like I said--I appreciate all the comments---but I know that I am not
100% wrong here---as some of the people DO AGREE with me.

    Moving on----Ken Goldman

Look, I'm probably speaking out of turn here.......

I only own three Ferraris, and they are all fragile, expensive, overated pieces of cr@p!...
...They DO sound good at redline..

But, historically over the past 18 years in the Market, it's ALWAYS "first come, first served"....
AND there's no deal until you open your wallet.

That's the case at $30K...and I'm certain it's the case at $300K, and it's probably the case at $3M, and at $30M.

There's guys here on FerrariChat that could comment on the larger numbers.

A car dealer is a car dealer........Ferrari or Honda, it's all the same......four tires, steering wheel...and heartache!!!

On all of my deals, there has to be a 'vibe"........the car.....maybe the owner.....SOMETHING will let you know "this is a good one"......

Unless it's the 412MI, there will always be another one coming along down the road, keep your powder dry and be ready.

There's been one brief mention of the salesman's health in this thread, once these old guys are gone, they are gone and the knowledge goes in the box with them when the lid goes down......

Miller and Ron Tonkin are the Old Guard of the sales network in this country I don't think they got that way by f&^%**^&$ing people over on a $150K deal.......

I have owned, and sold, over 100 F-cars. With a few exceptions, I always made the buyer PROMISE me he would call me if he ever wanted to sell. I should have put THAT in writing, as not one ever called me. Not one. And some of those dudes were friends. (With friends like that...). It goes in the "Oh well" file, I guess.

Interesting you mention Ron Tonkin, but after this thread I don't think they(Miller) should be mentioned in the same sentence, or paragraph for that matter. The folks at RTGT are very stand up guys, I was interested in a car they had there not too long ago. I approached them about it and they said they would have to see what happens since they were working a deal on the car. As far as I know, no monies had changed hands yet an I could have made them an offer on the spot but I believe they would not have taken it. Some peoples word is good and some poeples is not. The whole thing here is a bummer for Ken, sorry. But life does go on and there are more cars out there.

    Cheers!

    Well said!

While "Cash is King", the courtesy of a phone call seems like such an easy thing to do.
Why couldn't the seller have called Ken?
