    Hi,

I thought that I would alert people on this board of the problems that I am having getting the proper muffler for my 1979 308 GTS from Stebro. I also would like to know if anyone has any special way to get in touch with them as they do not answer their telephone and answer emails as they want to. They are eager to sell (as most of us are) but definitely not very responsive once they have your money.

    My saga

I ordered a SS muffler for my car at the end of April 2004. I got a muffler in FedEX about 10 days later in mid May. Did not get around to installing it until the first week of June and found that it was not at all the muffler for my car. It turns out that I was sent the muffler for a 1983 GTSi which they claim was because I had not specified a GTS model although I was quite clear that it was a 1979 car with stock exhaust. OK, an honest mistake I guess. I sent the muffler back on June 16 (they gave me a shipping code so it was cost free) and asked them to send me the correct one back. Dan Petschenig agreed to ship it to arrive at my house before July 4th. Well it never came. On July 16th Dan called me (I almost fell over when that happened as you just never get to talk to these guys) and told me that they were all ready to ship me my muffler for the "1983 GTSi with twin exhaust". Again they had gotten it wrong and I told them to stop the shipment and get the right muffler for a 1979 308 GTS which he agreed to do. Today is now August 23 (approx 37 days later) and Dan/Stebro still has not shipped the muffler and has stopped answering emails. I have sent him repeated emails asking for shipping dates etc etc with no answer.

I believe that eventually I will get my money back from Stebro (just not sure how) as they still have not shipped me a muffler and I have paid them real money. That ought to be enforceable in Canada although it might take a while yet. I thought that it would be good for all of you to know that Stebro has problems with order fulfillment and customer service. Yes, they are the cheapest SS free flow muffler that seems to be available for a 308 GTS but after 4 months and counting I am not so sure that I would not have tried someone else knowing what I know now. Will update if and when things change. Just now, though, I would be very careful of ordering anything from Stebro. If anyone knows Dan Petschenig or has a special way to contact him I would be glad of some help. Don

This is very similar to my experience and others with Stebro: non-deliveries and broken promises well documented in other threads.

Despite their ( Dan P.) promises to credit my account for months, I finally had to go recredit my card through the card company.

I hope your experience is better, but I believe that they are utter poop based on my dealings.

    Good luck

From alot of what I hear,Stebro is junk anyway.Rusting and ill fitting, and sounds horrible.Stock system sounds better.Better to spend more and buy Tubi or Ansa,a proven system, awesome sound, and true horsepower gain.

There have been lots of comments about poor customer service, but the quality of the product is excellent once you get the right model for the right car ;)

The sound is INCREDIBLE and I get nothing but compliments, and two other local F-car owners have purchased Stebros based on how mine sounds. I doubt you'll find a single Stebro owner on this board that thinks the sound of their factory exhaust was better than the sound of their Stebro exhaust. The fit on mine was perfect (USA 308QV). I was lucky in that mine came in 3 weeks.

Can anybody comment on the sound of the Stebro on an older V-12 model compared to the sound of the Ansa? I would like a little more sound for my car but I don't want it to be overwhelming.

After hearing stories like this I am so glad I did not order from them for my 84 308 QV. When I told Dan I had a 84 QV he insisted that I need two cat by pass pipes (the 84's need one as there is only one inlet and one cat.0 I didn't order then because I felt he did not know his product and I 'm pretty sure now that I saved myself some aggravation

Yes, the USA 84-85 QVs use the same part numbers as the 328, and are indeed single-cat.

MY Dino has a Stebro exhaust. AS I've explained before, I got mine quickly, and it sounds great.

My mechanic was impressed with the quality, and it required very little fitting.

    Just my experience.

I also just emailed Dan to see if I could get him to respond.

Seems to me, in most instances, if Stebro just gave us realistic estimates for delivery, we'd be happy.

    Dave

Oh, want to hear the exhaust? Go here.

It's not just ferrari people having issues with stebro. There was a very long thread on the alfa digest about this very problem. I sure hope the get the **** to gether before my exhaust rusts out. As stebro is the only SS system availible for my car in North America.

Emailed Dan. He replied back to me within the hour that the tracking numbers for the shipped exhaust had been forwarded to Dandy Don.

May still be the wrong exhaust, I didn't ask that, but, I never seem to have a problem getting an answer for you guys from Dan.

    Maybe I ASK NICER???

    Dunno.

If you get the right one, I'm SURE you'll like the sound and better flow and that it ended up being worth the trouble.

    Dear Ferraristi,

I have a Stebro SS exhaust (cat bypasses ) with the resonator sleeves. I found the quality was very good ( welding was fuctional but not detailed ) The folds were good, no crimps.....and it fitted quite well. The finish is a satin not a true polish. This is what stops me from buying one for the TR. In the 308 it is quite well hidden....in plain view out the back of the TR

I really like the sound. It is loud .....but a Ferrari should be loud. :)

I'm in manufacturing so I feel confident in commenting on the welds.

What would be nice would be to go over the wels with a second "pulse " pass with the tig. That what gives the " row or dimes " look if not done perfectly the first pass.

My wife tells me that I got my muffler shipment from Stebro. I will let everyone know if it fits. (Hope to get to it this weekend) Thanx for the help. Now I guess that I will have to hound Dan for the promised refund- seems that Stebro is advertising the 308 muffler for $1225 instead of the $1325 that was on their website in April/May. Dan promised me the $100 credit and something a bit more for waiting so long. Again stay tuned. Don
