This phone from Day 1 has been hard to hear others. They can hear me fine, but unless I'm inside and perfectly quiet the other person is very faint or I can't hear them at all. The volume is all the way up and I have gone through all other settings. My old Sprint phone was so loud when turned up others could hear you within 5 yards.

I took it back once and they had it for 3 weeks. They said they resodered it and gave it back, still problems though.

Although the volume is at 7, any other options I need to look at or does this phone just suck?

Speaker phone is off, would it work to turn speaker phone on in these situations I can't hear at all?

    Rob,

I had the EXACT same problem with my Verizon phone. I finally had to purchase a new cell phone (at my expense!) but in the end it was worth the money to avoid not hearing calls or the aggrevation of having it repaired (which almost always ends up not working right)

headset? or a nifty bluetooth ear piece? oh so fashionable. but might work since the speaker on the phone might be bad but the headphone jack/capability might be amplified better.

I just had my first call with the speaker phone on. Sounded about as loud as my Sprint phone with no speaker phone. The good thing was I could clearly hear and they could clearly understand me. So I'll just stick to speaker phone now. :) Thanks.

People wonder why I stayed with Sprint PCS. My Samsung SPH-A620 phone suffered a horrible death this past weekend, what a shame. I just got my replacement Sanyo VI 2300 phone today without a contract or hassle from customer service. BTW, the speaker phone feature rocks on this new phone. :D I know they had customer service issues in the past but there products are by far the best on the market. Now I got figure out what to do with a dead cell phone, the battery is still good of anyone wants it.

I have had problems with Motorola with all carriers. The phones would freeze up, turn off, and on one the mic would stop working while I was talking on it.

I have been using Siemens and Sony Ericsson phones for the past 2 years with no problems. I'm on a GSM network so they are more available. I know SE made a CDMA phone but I don't know who carries it.

With Spint the Sanyo phones used to be the best. I had a lot of problems with Sprint and at one point one of their VPs sent me a sanyo to try as they were the only phones with the least amount of problems.

I'll give a thumbs up to sanyo phones. I've had every brand of phone it seems, but none has had a clearer and more consistent signal than my latest Sanyo.

I carry a Motorola. I have extensive knowledge of all wireless systems and phone manufacturers and this is my take....

I find Motorola phones to be very unstable. Exactly as Ike pointed out, they always seem to have bugs in the software, whether CDMA or GSM...Take this into account, Nextel's whole ISDN system was built by Motorola, thats why Nextel only offers Motorola phones! Nextel's system is very unstable, it crashed for 2 weeks when Hurricane Ivan hit the Gulf Coast, the longest out of any carrier.

For CDMA, which is Sprint, Alltel, and Verizon....I find Samsung or LG to be the most stable phones....Sanyo is good, not a huge fan of Audiovox, and Motorola is the worst CDMA phone builder in my opinion. Nokia is solid but them and Ericsson focus on GSM technology, and are small players in the CDMA world.

For GSM, Nokia and Samsung are top notch. I find Ericsson menus a little harder for the average person, their ringtones tend to not ring loud enough, and typically signal strength compared to other carriers has been their weak point. They do build very trouble-free phones though. Motorolas have unstable software, but usually have more features for the money. Samsungs downfall has been their lack of speakerphone and Bluetooth in their phones, and their lack of car kits. That is changing. Nokia's phones have been flat recently, nice features but no pazzaazz to them, I think thats where Samsung and Motorola really have the edge. Samsung, Nokia, and LG's typically have the easiest menus for novice phone users from the feedback I get.

Other opinions may vary, but this the general feedback I recieve from purchasing customers...

FWIW, Consumer Reports said LG phones are amongst the best. They also say that Verison service is the best among all of the regions in the US. If that's the case, I'd hate to see BAD service. My Verison (LG) phone will not give up my voice mails sometimes for weeks.

Typically, I find GSM service more user friendly then CDMA. I would call Verizon and make sure everything is working properly on the 'switch'. It might be a problem with the switch, if alls well on their side, go into your local Verizon Wireless and swap out your phone, you have a 1 year warranty on it. Which LG model?

Which Motorola is it? My dad has the same exact problem with his. He HAS to use the bluetooth headset otherwise he can't understand two words. I on the other hand can hear just fine with it. I've come down to two possibilites with my dad: a)He holds the phone to high on his ear and therefore doesn't hear the voice as clearly. 2) He's going on 58 yrs old and i think he needs a hearing aid, lol.

Oh okay. Not the same one as my dads. I believe his is the 710. Thought they could be the same since your complaint is so parallel to my dads.

I've been with Verizon for 4 years and all my phones have been Motorola. No problems at all. My friends always use my phone whenever we are in a difficult reception area for any other network. I used to have a Nokia phone back with AT&T in the 90's. Phone had no durability at all and started to come apart so easily. I just got a Motorola V710. Great phone, lots of features, and the best reception I've ever had to date. Only software lock ups I've had was when using the video camera function.

That would have been my first or second guess. That and the LG-6000 tend to be the most problematic out of the popular phones...Consumer Reports rated LG-7000 #1, and LG-3200 #5...LG-7000 is a great phone, if you considering a model swap, thats the one i would go to (does not have speakerphone though!)

Its funny how they all seem to do it. I carry a Motorola myself, and it will lock up about once every 2-3 months. It doesnt bother me, just turn off the phone and its fixed, at worse I have to do a Master Reset. Some people though, if the phone locks up on them once, they freak out, don't know what to do, swap the phone out, swear at the phone, and vow never to buy that type of phone again. To those that couldnt handle a lock-up....I would say to go with Samsung.
