Has anyone ever exported a car from the US to Europe for the purpose of getting that car restored and subsequently returned back to the US upon completion? I have a friend that is having 2 cars exported for full restoration and we keep getting the runaround on what docs need to be produced. Key here is that they are NOT being exported as part of a sale, but just for restoration by the factory...ie, a `temporary' export.

Although this isn't specific to Dino's I figured someone on this particular forum has gone through this process.

Talk to a very reputable customs broker, and you will have the answers you seek.
Or, post your query in the "vintage" section, as I am certain it has already been done.

My guess, is that it would be akin to taking your car to Europe to travel with you,
as possibly, your friend would do. Or is he just sending the cars and then wait for them to be ready to bring back?

It sounds as quite the endeavour, both economically and of a supervisory function, but if the factory is doing the full 100%, then they might possibly get involved with the documentation.

When I took my cars home, they were not titled to me.

These cars will get a Pebble Beach Concours level 1.5-2yr restoration. There's hesitation about handing over the titles to the cars since my friend retains ownership to them...not the factory that's doing the restoration. But the shipper was claiming he needs the titles.

    Ron,

"Roma1280" appears to have done just that with a Vetro - see his post and a photo of the car in Maranello, sent on 20th June, here:

    Hope that may help.

    Cheers and good luck,
