    Just a random thought:

Now that Prodrive has announced they won't compete in 08, IMHO McLaren is safe from exclusion. Why? Because Bernie has agreements to deliver a certain number of F1 cars to the track. There's no way he will allow any of the teams to be excluded from the entire 08 season.

you are right on the number of F1 cars on track...its a mandatory number for tv revenue...

BUT McLaren wont be banned from next year racing , not even if you can scratch a Ferrari logo from undervthe silver paint...they are way to important to the show, to the sponsors, to the viewers, -besides, hell we need a team to laugh at... no-one will to kick them out even if they deserved it...not to mention the kind of bad press that has already plagued this season...or spiced it?

The worst I see for Renault is a retroactive removal from the 06 season -- which would give the WCC to Ferrari :D

They can drop a team and still meet their contractual obligations.

    Bye bye, Renault!

I was thinking about that earlier.... it was said that the ONLY reason Alonso and Hamilton were not docked points is the immunity thing. We all know that in reality, Max wanted to his Ron/McLaren without turning the WDC for 2007 into a fiasco. So they "backed in" to the final position - they came up with the result, then figured out a way to justify it. They said that since the drivers were the ones who knew about the data, they would give them immunity if they cooperated. Then they claimed their hands were tied when doling out punishment.

But unfortunately they won't be able to use that same excuse for Renault. So since it was stated that the drivers WOULD have been excluded, then IF Renault is found guilty, wouldn't they then pretty much HAVE to boot the Renault drivers for 2007 out of the WDC competition? And if so, that means MS is an EIGHT time WDC winner.

Now that I *would* like. A lot!

They would have to boot them from the 2007 WDC, not 2006 - the MCL engineers came to Renault AFTER 2006 IIRC

I'm certain the 06 Renault car was already on its final design by then, but the timeline still puts the 06 WCC/WDC in danger.
