Ok, so we know that Gary Paffett will probably get one of the race seats (or at least autosport.com really seems to think so), but who do you think will get the second one? If Scott Speed is dropped from Toro Rosso, maybe he can grab it.

+1 His ego wouldn't allow him to pay for a seat - Which at this stage is reasonable I guess :)

But, as good as Dave Richards has proven to be, F1's a whole different can of worms IMHO - There are plenty of drivers out there who can bring substantial $ to the table, and Dave's no dummy.

Does anyone know any "eligible" GP2 (?) drivers with big pots of gold right now? My take is it'll be one of them.

    Cheers,
    Ian

He has stated that it would be best to have a combination of an experienced driver and a rookie. Obviously you want an experienced driver for consistency and to develop the car. You also want a rookie, to bring money to the team and be a prospect for the future. Gary Paffet has been mentioned quite a bit, but i'm not entirely sold on that. The only benefit I could imagine, is that Richards would want to put a brit in the seat for british pride etc.

Perhaps Tomas Enge might make a return to F1 - he's been driving the 007 Aston for a couple years for Dave Richards and ALMS this year in a 430. He's been in an Indy car recently. Talk about a fight for the DC with him involved . . .

Enge's a great driver, but I don't think he has the chops for open wheel racing at the highest level. He was not that impressive even in A1 GP.

You guys will probably take my head off for this, but here's what I'm thinking. They should think seriously about Danica and here’s why. The Prodrive cars will not be competitive for a couple seasons at least, it doesn’t matter what driver they put in them, they will be back markers. TV time and buzz is about all they can hope to accomplish the first couple seasons and they need to accomplish that to get and hold sponsors. Danica would do that for them. Just a though, not saying she’s by any stretch the most qualified driver, but I think she’d be do for any new or struggling team.

Formula 1 isn't very popular in America, and few people know who she is outside of the states. Prodrive is a is a British team, so look for Richards to put the next British driver rising through the ranks in a seat, like Robbie Kerr for instance.

Bruno Senna, but he's linked to Berger at Red Bull. I'd say Mike Conway but he's been having a really bad year in GP2. I dunno if Timo Glock brings money but he's be a good fit, he's doing well in GP2 this year.
