I heard the Suzuki GSXR 600 has the same hi redline.

The R6 has often been at the top of the 600 pole.

I would love to have one.

(I heard a new Hayabusa is in the works) - less weight, less bulk, and another 200cc !!!!!!!!!!

    Yes, you're right.
I'm just going to sit back and wait until the next generation R1 comes out, (my guess is next year), with the super high red line. I'd guess it'll also have some other really trick new components as well- Then I'll try to pick up a 2006 R1 LE! I predict a hard fall in prices for it. I think it's a monster bike!

rumors about the new bike are already running wild. My guess is certainly no better than anyone elses. It's a tough market. I'd guess it'll be an even more incredible bike.

    My 04 R6 was a hoot.

TINY. Felt like you could throw it out from under you at any time. The power was good, VERY smooth. you did need to keep it wound up to really get some poop out of it, but thats just how you ride it. Its not something you have to keep in mind, its just what you do when you are really going fast.

The stock suspension on it was Ok. But I'm a little large for the stock springs (220lbs). Even at that it never really wallowed in the corners, but I did have to keep off full race pace by about 10% lest thigns get a little interesting suspension wise.

Flickable? Yep. Flip flop no problem. Handled mid corner corrections pretty well too.

Brakes were more than adequate for anything but full on racing, even then you'd need to be getting alot out of the bike before the brakes held you back in a race.

Fit and finish is great. Yammy has been turning out some good quality lately. Everything as it should be.

all in all a race bike with turn signals. Actually, not toooo well suited for the street. But then again, I'm wuss on the street. I like to be comfy, and I dont ride hard anywhere but on the track. So for me it wasnt tooooo livable day to day. Not even for canyon carving. The 04 R6 is a track weapon, but its a damn good one.

if the new one is an upgrade to the 04 models... its gunna be good.

The 2001 GSXR 750 is VASTLY different than the new version.

For the most part the 01 GSXR is kinda portly. It feels bigger than it is. It wide between yer knees. But for someone my size (6'7") it fits REAL nice. Damn near comfy. Some are put off by it. But once it gets rolling, it gets smaller quickly.

It may not be the most flickable bike I've ever ridden. BUT, its dead stable even when you are in it HARD. I've got mine alllll tweaked up suspension wise (valves and springs up front, Elka out back, lots of set up laps) just for me and its a hoot to ride. Holds a line REAL well, can handle some input mid corner. What you give up in flickability you gain in stability. I tend to like that a little better than a bike that is slightly twitchy. The GSXR fits that bill.

The motor? Fuggetaboutit. Prolly THE most fun trackday motor our there. I'm getting ~130hp out of mine. Never really bogs too bad on ya, and can put you into warp drive at the twist of a wrist. You DO have to keep that in mind on corner exits. You can spin up the tire, not as easily as you can on a 1000, but it WILL happen if you grab a handful at the wrong time (trust me on this one :D). If you keep it spun tight you can "dail-a-slide" on corner exits, if yer that good (I'm not). But for trackday pace, its a real peach.

The downside to it is that it eats tires if you really get busy with it. Almost as much as a 1000. Trackday pace (and that can mean alot of things) should see you getting 3-4 days out of a set of Dialbo SuperCorsa's (thats what I run and I highly recommend them for this bike). Race pace cuts that number down to 2-3 (or 1 if you REALLY haul arse). Gets pricey quick. But fun has its costs.

The new version of the 750 is smaller, lighter and more flicakble. I have had any seat time on one, but reports back from other racers who's opinion I value (and who pass me on a regular basis :D) say the new 750 is all the old was, but with less wieght, smaller feel, better handling (slightly quicker).

I'll prolly get some seat time on one after the new year (only one track day left this year).

But the 750 is a GREAT trackday bike.

If yer used to higher HP i4's its hard to beat...

unless you are new to the game...then I'd say SV650... but thats a WHOLE nuther issue.

Actually, reading yer profile... the F4 is a fine trackday bike.

actually not a bad way to go if you want to start doing trackdays (which I would HIGHLY recommend to any rider).

When I look at bikes 10 years ago compared to the '06 models I just have to wonder how much further it will go. Where will bikes be in say 10 more years? 200+ hp, 20K+ RPM redlines and computer controlled suspension? How much further do you think the bike version of the nuclear arms race will go?

BMW already has sorta "computer" controlled suspension... sorta...
you can change settings electrically, sport, tour...

Power levels are just stupid right now. 150hp is standard for 1000cc race replicas right off the showroom floor. you can get 170 with a pipe, chip and filter.

Some tech is bound to trickle down from MotoGP and AMA. "traction control" is already in use.. or is it? :D Ask Mladin.

Cars come LOADED with tech and sensors these days. The migration to bikes has already started.

    it will be interesting indeed.

even at that, the bike in my garage that is the biggest kick to ride has ~30hp. 2000 DRZ400. I'll be putting sticky street tires on it soon and then the fun will REALLY begin.

i'm hoping to register with NESBA next year and then hit some of the trackdays in the mid atlantic region.

my F4 was actually my first bike.....ever. even though i was from the boonies i hadn't even ridden ATVs or dirtbikes or anything. so i kindof went against what most people suggested when i went looking for a first bike. but, the way i see it, i may have made that mistake, but now that i have the bike, the more i ride it, the more experience i'll get. so i ride every chance i get. i've had it for 5 months now and have put over 3,000 miles on it. the previous owner had put 6,400 on it in about 5 years. plus i just picked up a pitbull rear stand so i can start learning to do my own maintenance

edit// your DRZ, is that one of those things they call a "super motard"?

Yep... right now its a Dual Sport. Once it gets street tires its a Tard.

If you head up north I have a bro who is an instructor for NESBA. Good rider, good teacher. I think he rides in VA.

You could have done worse for yer first bike. The F4 isnt what I would recommend out of the box, BUT its not bad. The being said, the most dangerous part of any motorcycle is the nut holding the handlebars.

You can be safe or stupid, its up to you. Stupid hurts on a bike.

Trackdays go a LONG way to increasing your skills.
MSF courses are a nice way to go also. Even if you know which end of the bike you are supposed to point down the raod, its not a bad idea to go to a beginning class, and then do the advanced class. The starter course is REAL basic, but the instructors will teach you a thing or two garaunteed.

No one ever said.. Oh darn, I've got too much formal training.

doing yer own Maint is a good deal. Cheap, and it gets you to know yer bike. Buy a shop manual... not a Clymers but a FACTORY Shop Manual. Go to the Honda dealership and pay out the ass for it. It will tell you EXCATLY how to do EVERYTHING. The dealership wrenches dont know it all, they read the same book. Plus doing yer own maint will show you things to watch for.

For bigger things.. valve adjustments and such.... ya might want to get some help the first time. I'm sure there is an F4 owners group in yer area. Good place to start. If not, hell, take it to the dealer, pay too much to have it done, but ask if you can watch.

This sounds odd... but wash yer bike. Do it every once in a while. I gooooood cleaning. Does several things, it'll show you real quick if you have any leaks and gives you a good view of lots of different parts of the bike. Dont be afraid to take the fairing off. Get in there and scrub. Yer bike will look good too when done.

Change out brake fluid at least every season. you'll be amazed at the increase in brake feel with new juice in there after a season.

i was thinking i'd probably be hitting summit in WV, VIR in VA, maybe road atlanta in GA, plus theres one at a small track in SC, maybe some others.

i took the MSF course before i got the bike, think it was in april or so. i plan on taking the advanced course next spring when the weather gets nicer and i have more time (read: no stupid history classes).

i actually downloaded the official Honda maintenance manual for my bike. its all in PDF format. i used it during the summer to take off some of the fairings when i got curious as to what it looked like underneath them. and i clean it before and after i ride it everytime with a microfiber cloth and that honda wax/cleaner stuff. keeps everything nice and shiney.

hey guys, im riding a 05 CBR Repsol, my first street bike in about 10 years, bike is so fast its scary, hit the rock store and neptunes net last weekend, lota fun, cops everywhere

so the other night im moving the bike around on the driveway, got my feet on the pegs, the bike starts to go and i just step off and let it fall, im used to dirt bikes, when they start to go you just step off and let it fall, big mistake, cracked or scratched every fricking fairing on the left side, broke the clutch lever, broke the turn signal off, musta done close to 1000 in damage, next time im gona lay under the damn bike instead of letting it hit the ground, lessons learned, i thought F cars were expensive to get fixed
