Recently I've fallen in love with ELO and Supertramp ... any recommendations on similar bands?
I've always been partial to a bit Yes. Early stuff is less poppy that ELO & Supertramp but try the albums - "Fragile" and "Going For The One"....they should serve you right. Cheers Darren.
Muse is f'n amazing. Their album "Absolution" is one of my fav albums in history. Tool rocks also of course...
Genesis was another big progressive band as was the above mentioned Yes. ELO and Supertramp were more of a pop oriented progressive band than any of the other bands mentioned. Ambrosia was a much less known band but had a pop influence. Jellyfish was a very talented band. Emerson Lake and Palmer, Marillion and Gentle Giant.
Faust - Faust Soft Machine - Third Hatfield and The North - The Rotters Club Those are more pure Proggers. However, if you're into ELO, then your other mention, Supertramp (1st 2 albums are more prog than rest of their Poprog output) is comparable, as are 10cc, Alan Parsons, The Alan Parsons Project, Al Stewart, Ambrosia, Kansas, The Tubes and Utopia, all in their own right.
I have a lot of Rush, Yes, and ELP already. New ones I looked at were 10cc and Alan Parsons Project, both of them are great! Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll look into Genesis next
Dream Theater is very good. Tool is awesome, although I'm not that happy about 10,000 days (still better than 99% of the crap out there, of course).
Ok, Genesis and Marillion are great as well. None of them make me click like Supetramp and ELO but they are all awesome. Thanks again everybody
Haven't heard the whole record, but the songs I did hear, the guitars were quite a bit louder than normal, and Maynerd's voice is more buried than usual. Sounds kinda different. The couple of songs I've heard sound too much like some of their other album, especially the last one. Can't stand it when bands do that..

You might dig some of The Sweets music... but you have to pick the right album because they redefined themselves on virtually every album. Most musicians I know have huge amounts of respect for this band but the general public doesnt really know them. Try the following two albums Level Headed Give Us A Wink

Scratch that, 10cc is awesome! So many great songs, Dreadlock Holiday, Good Morning Judge, Clockwork Creep, I'm mandy Fly Me to name a few. I just downloaded their entire discography, which is something I've only done for a few other bands
I have every Steely Dan song, lots of REO Speedwagon and Alan Parsons and Dire Straits and Pink Floyd and the Clash, and a few from Traffic and Steve Winwood. I'll get some more of those, thanks!
you guys are listing some good music... but you are missing one of the best: MARILLION their older stuff is more "progressive" like some of those listed here... I love their newer stuff too, it's evolved but still complex, interesting, and catchy, not so much the kind of music you listen to one "song", but you enjoy the whole album (CD). From the early Marillion: Misplaced Childhood - (one of best "concept albums" ever) From the later: Their last album, "Marbles" is currently in heavy rotation in my car. I'd almost be willing to refund the purchase price of anybody who said they liked some/most of the bands in this thread, but bought a Marillion album and didn't like it. (I said "almost", this is the internet after-all, and guarantees like that can really backfire... ) --steve
Supertramp rocks. BTW, not really progressive, but if you like a lot of these bands you might like Fleetwood Mac.
