I've never seen body holes like that before.

    I think $20k is optimistic

I could see putting $10k in it real quick and then it's still a car with issues.

What do you think caused that rust? These has to be a lot more under the paint by the looks of it.

20K is high....it doesnt look like a tough fix but the question is...'how did that happen????'....it looks bad...do you think its the cause of a more severe underlying problem? I never seen holes like that!

    Galvanic effect. :D

If it really is limited to the doors and the one spot on the body, its fixable. Interior looks okay, top of the engine is cleaner than the 308 I bought.

Doors should be available from Ted Rutland, I'd just swap them out and keep the glass and door panels from this one.

It seems rough and needs a bit, but it could make a good hobby car for someone that is looking at getting their hands dirty. If it was a GTB, I'd be chasing it...

The listing stated that he started sanding on it. It didn't get like that just sitting there. Look at the passenger side door, it probably looked like that before he got carried away.

It probably spent some time sitting out and got leaves or something in the door drains....you can get a couple inches of water in there with the drains plugged. Plus it's been painted one already....the bottoms of the door are probably already puttyed up so the rust moved north.

I agree, no more than $15k if you want to get out of this car with your skin in tact. It really is more of a parts car...which is a shame.

Door skins are still available (I believe). But hell, a complete repaint could easily run you $10....and then you have to deal with the mechanicals and interior. Hope whoever buys it is a good DIYer.... ;)

It looks like the owners (past or present) couldn't afford the upkeep. What a shame...I have never seen a Ferrari in such poor condition.:(

Heat and humidity can cause that kind of rust. I found a 280Z from NC with exactly the same problems. I have owned five 240Z's that ALL had to have new floor boards welded in for no other reason except the cars came out of the factory with NO rust protection (like a '78 308) and they were exposed to water repeatedly over the years. Doors filling up with water will make holes like that.

The reason he quit sanding on it is because you can't sand holes and that is when he figured out he was in deep.

I'm guessing the there are few other bubbles under the paint on that car. Multiply the size of the bubbles by 10 . Add that to dried out rubber gaskets, bulb seals and mouldings and you have a serious restoration on your hands.

    10k max.

The door skins are shot, i'd be worried about the door frames, the sills, the windscreen pillars & surround & the rear quarter panels as well. Could be a real bag of worms.

If the mileage is genuine it could be a very good parts car though if you could grab it for $10-$12K

My car needs paint 9as soon as I'm not tweaking mechanical stuff) and the quotes I got 2 years ago were $8k-$10K. A $3k paint jobs is a "10 foot" paint job....it will look great as long as you stay 10 feet away. A couple of the painters I talked to did drop there estimates to $4k-$5k if I delivered the car disassembled and stripped.

The car's at $15,000. It looks decent at that price provided there's nothing lurking in the drive train, or previous accident damage etc. Assuming (usually a bad thing) nothing too major is hidden ( a personal inspection would be a must) and a person has some basic mechanical skills they could have a very presentable 308 for $20,000 - not bad. The body looks complete, I didn't notice any missing trim, the interior looks pretty good. Figure $1,000 for those unexpected mech gremlins, $1,000 for door repair - either entire skins or possibly just replacing the bottom half of the skins, and $3,000 for a paint job. Obviously not a glass out paint job but who would do that on a sub 50,000 car anyway? $20,000 for a driver - not too bad

What people forget is that 308's came with 10 foot paint jobs from the factory...

The old saying, The Poor Man Always Pays Twice, is what would apply to most buyers of an old, abused, and beat-up Ferrari.

A nice paint job would cost at least $5,000. A great paint job could cost well over $10,000. And that's just for cosmetics. And nothing is sader than a Ferrari with less than a mint exterior. I mean, if you have a Ferrari, IMO, it's almost an obligation to have it looking mint.

When a car looks terrible on the outside, you can usually bet all your money the 'inside' is crap as well. It also speaks volumes about the care previous owners took of it. But if a car (w/original paint of course) is nearly mint on the outside, and wasn't in a flood, it really limits the extend of damage that could be under the hood. So considering the paint job alone will run at least $5,000, and to fill the disgusting rust decay this eBay car has, you're probably going to be spending $7,000-$10,000. And that doesn't cover anything mechanical or electrical.

I don't know, all I'm saying is that the average John Doe looking for his first Ferrari on a shoe-string budget, willl lose in the end buying a 'fixer-upper'. Again, if you're skilled and can DIY, of course that's a different story.

Couldnt agree more. My QV had terrible paint from the factory. Right now the car is completely disassembled and I am blocking the whole car by hand. It will look like glass when I am finished with it, but the factory paint was not what I would call quality. Especially considering it cost over $60K in 1985.
You could have that rat on Ebay fixed and painted properly for $5000. If I wasnt so busy right now, I would be all over it for the $15K it is at now. I could do that car myself with a 30K service and have it looking and running new for under $20K. A good DIY guy will have fun with it for small bucks.
My only concern is how rusty it probably is in the trunk areas.

As Judge said, If it were a GTB I would be all over it. Can you say track car!

    John
