Project Merak for sale?

I was just at Maserati Club International today, and Kerry McMullen had an old Merak sitting in the warehouse (that and a Mexico), both were in pretty sad shape and in need of restoration.

I have a pretty decent project 80 SS I'd sell, in Ohio. Running driving car, truely not much cancer well worth saving, needs stripped and painted mostly. I'll try to get some photos to post. Car had an interesting past.

Buy one in original and really nice shape. This is not a car you want to spend a lot of money on unless money is no issue in which case go for it. Typically, Meraks ended up being fcked with a lot because they've been cheap to buy for the last 20 years. It''s usually not well done and rarely original. I'd wager that the best original Merak in the USA will be cheaper to buy than any project once you're done.

I remember when Frank Mandarano did a QPIII like that. A friend of mine bought it and referred to it as the Great White Whale. Very Miami Vice.

The first one looks better to me. A bit NJ tartish inside but think of the collection of red&blue annodized hose fittings you'll have after you return it to stock!

 

That is one white Merak. Is "chalk white" (or whatever it's called) a stock color?

There was a white avialable. I've seen Meraks and a couple of Boras in that color. It's not a favorite with me but then neither is Maserati's red. Way too orange looking. The white looks pretty striking with a lobster red interior though. The one in that photo is some kind of lipstick red and unless the photos are screwy I don't think it's original. The horizontal red piece below the glove box looks suspect?

 

It speaks (screams) for itself. This one has been around for a while.

Are you looking for the ugliest Merak?

 

My buddy just bought this car, the all-white car with the badly written ad in the Philly Craigslist. Rented a trailer from uHaul, drove to NJ (despite the Philly Craiglist ad, the car was supposed to be in NJ). He paid 15k. I thought he was absolutely crazy. I actually thought he was going to get robbed.

Gets the car home, and within the first day resprays the bumpers black and the wheels silver. The car was originally red and the white paint is far from flawless, but it's better than you would think and appears rust free. The interior is in great shape, everything works, and the car drives very well. I can't believe it! Now I think it was the best deal I've seen in years. It is one helluva car for 15k! The Euro versions do look better, but I will say the Merak is a good looking car!

Eventually I'll get some pictures here for the record.
