Back in the garage today , and a few jobs were taken on .. Removed the two wiper panels and found that the bodywork underneath was solid but quite dirty .Cleaned everywhere , then lightly rubbed down ready for painting . Masked off the wiper parts and then painted in matt black . The paintwork on the windscreen surround is quite bad (chipped/scratches), so i have masked off completeley the windscreen and the surround edge . I will strip the paint off and then repaint the surround next week . Removed the black fronts around the headlamps for cleaning and to inspect inside the pods . I was really impressed what i found inside the pods , everything was perfect . I then gave everything a light polish ready for the fronts to be replaced next week . My friend in the paintshop contacted me yesterday , to tell me the bumpers were now ready for collection .. could not resist picking them up from him today . They look superb and he has given the back a coat of stonechip ... should be ok for years now . Now all wrapped up safe in my workshed ; ready for fitting asap . Will see if i can sneak away for a few hours during the Christmas holidays to fit them ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think you will be ready for Italy looks splendid! Now something tells me you cannot withhold yourself to put it on the car the next coming days
They do look great ... all i know that it is a semi gloss paint with a rubber compound added so that the paint will not crack . I can find out further detail when i see him again in the new year ... MVT ... you are totally correct , i think Santas little helpers will be doing their magic in the next couple of days . . Ho Ho Ho !!!!
Managed to sneak into the garage a little , over the last 2 days .. Wanted to finish a few jobs before re fitting the bumpers .. Battery tray painted Refitted the polished wiper panels and wiper arms . Used new Bosch wiper blades Fitted the Optima batterty and connected CTEK trickle charger connector . Then we started to fit the water bottle panel : what a challenge that was , It was like a challege on the Krypton Factor ( Brits will know what i mean ) - eventually after much blood , sweat and tears the panel slotted in . Who the hell designed that ..... Cleaned water container and refitted . Finished cleaning and polishing the front compartment . Not bad progress... thats my lot for 2015 ..... Happy New Year !!! hahaha yes it is! It is realy a nightmare to get it in trying every angle, but the right one However taking it out goes easy. I did a mod, by making the piece dismountable by drilling the pins holding the 2 pieces together so I can bolt them together. First I put in the lower panel and then the vertical one. I'll try to make some pics today.
To turn words into pictures. Don't mind the Italian dust! These cars are dust collector bins when you drive them you will notice Last pic is taken from under the fender behind the battery panel. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good work .. will look into doing something like that next year I am also looking to put a clear perspex cover over the battery . Has anyone done this to protect the battery ?
Hi Alden , that looks great and is that a battery cut off switch ? . My car has neither , i need to fit both a cover and a cut off . Both original on your car ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, both original, I added some labels for "on/off" at the switch and "pos/neg" over the battery terminals. Mine also came with a female plug for the emergency light. This is the early type plug like the one in my glovebox, not a standard lighter plug. It was connected directly to the battery with no fuse, I had to replace the wiring so I added a fuse to protect it. I used the receptacle to plug in my battery charger before I got a CTEK for Christmas and wired it direct to the battery. I have seen the large "hole" for the plug with 3 small holes for screws on other cars, but they are missing the plug assembly. ?? Pic below with cover removed. Alden Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cheers Alden ; they are now on 'my to do ' list. Got drawn back into the garage yesterday , and decided to next tackle the brakes and suspension etc. Started on the front drivers side (offside in the UK) . Removed the wheel and was greeted by not a pretty sight - see photos . Lots of dismantling /cleaning / painting needed . I have now also removed the caliper and pads . The caliper looks to be working ok , but i will need to pressure test the piston before any re-assembly .. Definitely a 2016 job, as we are now gearing up for our New Years Eve party .. Hic Hic !! Happy New Year folks ... The garage called to me a few days ago , so the work has continued . I have made good progress on both front wheel arches/suspension /brakes etc , but i am waiting for the calipers to be pressure tested which is happening next week, and i will then refit if all is ok ... The arches were given a nice fresh coat of matt black stonechip . I checked all wishbones , mountings , rubbers , ball joints , shocks etc etc , and found everything to be nice and tight - i therefore opted to just give the area a quick coat of black enamel spray , to speed up getting the car back on the road . The complete strip down and powder coating will i think, be left until next winter . I have just started looking at the rear wheel arches on the drivers side (UK offside ) and am in the process of planning my attack . Like the front arches the area will need a lot of cleaning and painting ( see pics ) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the side air intake that feeds the engine air filter, there are also 2 airway outputs that do not seem to be doing anything apart for helping engine cooling.. opinions/ideas ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The top one is for cooling the rear exhaust manifold. You are missing a ring tube that goes on and swirls the backside of the shock. You should have a clamp near the shock. The bottom, same, but for the front exhaust manifold. I can remember mine is different for the bottom one. I'll take some pics tomorrow than you can see how it sits in place.
Thanks once again, I knew they were there for a reason . I do not have any of those tubes, so will look forward to your photos .... cheers .
The yellow lines are the flexible pipe going to the rear exhaust manifold. Red arrow you see the clamp on the frame and the tube goes between the frame and the shock (Alloy pipe is the coolant pipe that goes down). First 2 pics are take from underneath and the last pic from above (you see the pulley of the waterpump.) The lower wind opening has no tube (2nd pic).
