Upper half of steering column surround: (only a few parts left in this portion of the project) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Received my new accelerator pedal cover from Algar yesterday. Guys, note: these are only available new from FNA and they had 19 left before I bought 2. These crack - I'd suggest you check yours and purchase one while you still can. Also, these do not go sticky. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So will you tell us what paint you used? I don't get it, if you are not holding back to promote your own business, then why not help out a community who has already helped you plenty? But if you are promoting business, then it looks like you are stepping on someones toes.
Hey Darryl, If you are questioning my giving back, among other threads and posts, see this: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/447037-helpful-information-those-search-355-a.html I'm not going to apologize for keeping a few items to myself. Thank you
No one is asking for an apology or doubting your contributions, but starting a restoration thread and blatantly holding back on things that can help an entire community leaves a bad taste. In retrospect, it would have been best if you simply kept that part to yourself if that was your intention. Congrats on your new reputation.
I think Dave has helped lots of people here with: A. Finding cars B. Spotting issues with potential purchases for buyers looking for cars C. A Buyers Guide and sharing his shopping experiences in the real world (I would guess he has 400 PM's just on these topics alone from those dipping their toes in the water) D. Naming the differences and updates between model years of our F355 E. Disassembly techniques F. Provided sources on hard to find parts and specialty items G. Started posts on, '96+ alarms, pins, and fobs, F1 system, garage lifts and flooring installation, detailing, leatherique adventures, and of course photos on why we all like the F355 Dave does not need any cheerleaders. With his NY side, he also won't have any problem butting heads with the best of them when things get touchy. Yet, he has been a very helpful member here to most. I'm thankful for this thread and all the other ones where he's posted. Try to move past this very meaningless "sticky" side of life and look forward to all the good posts that he and all of us contribute to. I would suggest that the silent majority of owners don't want to tackle this themselves EVER, just to save a few bucks. The forum is a much more constructive place these days. It takes work. I challenge each of us to start a thread or contribute "something" this week that will be of benefit to the group and move away from the drama. Life is short. Robb
As individual contributors, we all normally use the 348/355 forum to share any and all helpful info for other owners. I believe that in a honest effort to do that in the beginning, Dave has decided that his sticky method is commercially valuable and he intends to pursue this approach. If this is accurate, this thread should be closed. For Dave to continue to post the results of his process without sharing the sources and methods that obtained those results is clearly against the spirit of FChat. Further pictures should be shared in a commercial thread where we can all appreciate his efforts. I for one would love to see a SNM vs. Dave Rocks comparison with side-by-side de-sticky pictures including a voting option (think of the drama). I believe we are all for open competition and the pricing efficiencies that come from vendors competing in the market. Dave, Rob, others - do you agree or disagree with this approach? Ken
Guys, it was my mistake to make one post with a future intention. It was during discussions with Rob for sponsorship - again, it was my mistake to post it. I should not have said a word and no one would view this thread other than what it is - my 95 restoration thread. If you don't enjoy the thread, please do not view it. I have a ton left to do on this car that has nothing to do with sticky parts. If you want that effort and documentation off the forum, then fine - I support Rob closing this thread and I will not spend my time creating others.
What's the hoopla about what paint was used? There have been plenty of paints recommended, I have posted what I used on a couple of parts several times, stated that is as close to OEM color and sheen as I have found (i.e. pretty much indistinguishable) and as far as I cat tell, those posted were totally ignored. Now you are all over Dave because he won't tell you what he is using? Something else to consider is that even if you order OEM parts and they are not sticky, don't expect that the new OEM part will match exactly color and sheen with the old ones.
Dave Your doing a good job and learning all about the 355.Don't listen to all the negative people and keep doing what makes you happy.
This has become a tempest in a teapot which can and should be ignored. We are on an ocean voyage (a restoration) on a rough sea. The voyage itself is what we all want to follow.
No one is perfect but folks like to jump ALL OVER the slightest lapse. I thoroughly enjoy watching anyone who attempts a DIY task from first timer to the affluent professional. Techniques can be learned along the way for anyone with an open mind. Please continue
The thread started out as an informative and useful thread for 355 owners (I'm a former owner but still enjoy visiting) but when someone claims to have figured out a solution to a common problem and then stating that I'm not going to share it.....well that is not being very helpful is it?
Well, gentleman, mission accomplished - I'm out. I've got better things to do with my time. To my friends, you know how to find me and thank you for your support. To the others, you can now spend your time listening to DrBob babble Be well.
I don't care about all this nonsense on how you paint your interior parts. I want to follow your restoration work. How do i do that?
Prove you were trying to be helpful to the community and not commercial by sharing the secret sauce before you leave.
Responding to that cheap shot is below my standards. I simply brought up a point of something that I personally didn't care for. I didn't recruit anyone to support me and continually said it was my opinion. It seems as if others share a similar view and I stand by what I said.
Sorry to hear that. Also sorry to heard that you and Dr Bob are at heads with each other. As I said I still consider both of you friends. What really bothers me is that this is the result of you not revealing what "remover" you are using on the stickies. I don't see calls for SNM to tell every one what he is using and for that matter I can not see the big deal as there have been so many different "removers" posted to this site I'd say it is superfluous.
The original finish is a silicone based paint . If i'm correct , VHT makes a silicone based high temp header paint in black in a spray can , i'll almost bet that is the product , i 've used it , although not on interior parts , but it should closely replicate the factory finish . I'll try it when i'm in the shop tomorrow and post the result . I havent been following this thread , didnt know it was getting so juicy " serenity now "
