I realized some time ago that one of the problems of acquisitions was the ability to store them-safely. For several months I have had cars spread all over town and it was time to round them all up into one place. The problem was that 3 did not go into 2 evenly.
So I made the decision to install a lift in the garage to accomodate and alleviate the problem. However the main directive was to do it with out spending a ton of money to raise ceilings and overhead doors. After months of research and discussions with lift manufacturers and applying a lot of math, I figured out how to do it without raising the ceiling or modifying the door and finding a lift manufacturer that understood my problem and position.
This first group of pictures represents the problem.

One the lift was erected the math began to get pretty close. The original maximum height of the car on the lift could be no more than 94 inches and the clearance underneath the lift could be no less than 45 inches. If either of these was out of spec. then the whole project washed out. The final specifications are 3 inches clearance from the top of the lifted car to the ceiling and 3/4 of an inch clearance from the bottom of the runway to the top of the "floor car" This is exactly what I had calculated and it works perfectly.

    Whew, thats tight!

You could alway lower the air pressure in the tires for more clearance. ;)

Why am I always the last to hear the stories? It appears that your yellow car has cloned itself, something I'd never thought was possible. Every time I see a picture of your garage, there's a new color from the rainbow in there.

Doesn't look like it is going to happen for you, but good luck. If it does, wow... it's going to be a tight fit.

I have 12 foot ceilings, here's what Rotary had to offer.

    Don; Good job.
If you need a few inchs more it looks like a recessed flourescent ceiling fixture could be used.

Does the lift have a 'stop' on it to be sure it doesn't crush the car on the roof of the garage? I have a visual of a beer can that's been run over....
