I’ve seen people do many different things- here’s what I’ve been told and do- agree or disagree?

Start- foot on brake, push the start button once. It won’t start. Lights come on on dash, makes a dinging sound repeatedly…. After 3 dings, some lights go out on the dash. Hit the start button again and it starts. This is ‘correct’ for all Ferraris as I’ve always done and been told.

    - conversely, I see many people just put foot on brake and HOLD the start button until it starts. As I understand, this does not set the electronics and computer scans properly before start up. (As with most performance cars like McLaren, Lambo and AMG, I’m told you should always hit the start button without your foot on brake once and this sets the electronic and makes it ready to start. Then you hit the start with foot on brake to start) Ferrari is a bit smarter where even with foot on brake for first push of the start button, it won’t start and sets the electronics/scans etc first, then you simply do it again. As I understand, THIS has been the main issue with McLaren electronics for example as people do not start them correctly and lights pop up and cause issues etc.

    Opinion?

To turn off- stop. Pull both paddles for neutral. Set parking brake. Hit stop button. Get out.

    - conversely, I see some people stop and just turn it off in gear 1 and get out.

    Opinions, thoughts?

Start option 1 is how I do it. The initial press of the start button is a quick full press and release. The second press after all of the initial beeps is a press and brief hold.

Stop option 2 is how I do it. I don’t think I’ve ever manually set the parking brake and the only time I put it in neutral is to blip the gas for extra noise when requested, in moderation of course ;)

I was told at delivery on start up to push the start button without pushing the brake to allow the electronics to cycle through. Then after the few beeps stop, while stepping on the brakes, you push and hold the start button until the engine starts.

To turn off the engine, just come to a stop and leave it in gear and push the start/stop button. The parking brake automatically engages and that’s it.

I will start stopping that way because my way sometimes makes it think i want car wash mode…

As for starting, it never requires any hold of the button… just a tap even on second time and it’ll start right up.

And whether foot is on brake or not for first tap, Ferrari was smart enough to ‘not start’ upon first push.

I have never done start option 1 and always do stop option 2.

    No issues whatsoever.

    I have a F8 Spider.

I always park it with the top open.

Before I start the car I always take a running dash and jump in like Batman. Then I push whichever button is close and keep pushing buttons until it starts. Then I drive really fast and laugh. When I am done I park in the garage and sometimes I turn it off, sometimes I don't.

I would not suggest everyone does it this way but it is really fun.

  11. I am happy when my car starts.

And even happier when it stops with no issues.

The big red “START” button on your steering wheel will start and stop the engine without any weird variations being required. This is still a mass produced vehicle with mass produced electronics and it works the same as any other car…

Also, McLarens will have electronics issues whether you clap your hands twice and say a little prayer while pushing the start button once with the brakes off then again a few seconds later with the brakes on, or not.

Same start and stop procedures .

Only thing 488 GTB as the F8 is a turbo car I let it warm about 4 minutes then drive off in Auto until oil and water temps are in the go zone > 80 degrees Celsius then go to manual :).

Then after my ride let it idle for the same time before turning it off.

Done this on all the turbo cars ive owned and they thanked me for it.

I treat it like a normal car, and only one got a scare.
I was driving from Switzerland to Greece through Italy (via ferry), and stopped overnight at Maranello. In the morning at startup, every single light on the dash went up. Turned it off. Opened the door. Locked car. Did a small prayer. Unlocked car. Turned on ignition and let electronics cycle through. All good. Then started it up and went on my merry way. Never understood why or how. Never happened since.

You probably did something sacrilege at Maranello, like accidentally think about a Lamborghini for a second or pineapple on pizza.
