    Agreed.

And I think the current Q1/2/3 format achieves that pretty well.

At least given the current tyre situation; I'd like to see 'em get more, but understand why they don't.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Elimination quali, slowest car out every 90 seconds. Then a coin toss to determine if the order will be fastest on pole or slowest. Coin to be tossed by Miss Universe in a Bikini, standing at the finish line surrounded by 22 girls in Bikinis (we could substitute body paint, except in Muslim countries) representing the colors and number of each driver. Once the order is determined, the girls line up in grid formation.

    I wouldn't like it for 2 reasons:

    - I would be boring to see only one car at the time on the track.

    - Within 90 minutes, the weather conditions can change drastically and affect the qualif laps of some drivers more than others.

I think it's the present imposition of tyres, plus engine life, and their number, is what really makes the present qualif system dul: teams try to save both!

I advocate complete freedom on tyres, engines, etc... and no restriction in their use.

The only proviso in my proposal: the driver must use the chassis and engine he qualified with.

    No mention of the tyres!!

Any system that would give a grid based on anything else than faster time on pole, and them positions in decreasing order of speed would make a mockery of the world championship.

As much as I enjoy the reverse order or number lottery to spice the show and determine the starting grid in British Touring Car Championship, I don't think it would be appropriate in a World Drivers Championship.

They still could spend big money in getting the same dowforce with less drag.

Maybe, but I think there is less to gain in lap time by chasing drag than by increasing downforce.

Downforce reduces braking distance, increases cornering speed and allows quicker accelerations.
Reduce drag only acts on top speed.

The idea is to reduce the budget by restricting the parameters.
