Since it's probably 67% of our New Year's Resolutions, I was thinking what if we held a little challenge here on Fchat, kind of like the Body for Life contests?

    Idea:
    - People start by entering with a photo, maybe in shorts or minimally clothed (or in the case of Steve Rochlin, at least minimally clothed ;) ), holding a newspaper and body stats, registering by mid-Jan

    - We go for 12 weeks until mid-May and then choose winners based on total lbs. lost and % lost

    - Prizes? Entry fee? Donated prizes? These I don't know, but what do you think of the idea?

-BTW, no gastric bypass recipients are eligible!

Since everyone says I am a lil twig, can I purchase some of the lost weight? :D

You could use the BMI caculator to figure out the precentile that you fall in.

I'm in. I'm not gonna win any awards, but I need some motivation to change habits. Rec league roller hockey starts this week, and lasts a few months. I signed back up cause I'm getting almost no exercise otherwise.

I weigh about 20 pounds more than I did when I last played in an organized league about 2 1/2 yrs ago. Its all on my torso, primarily my gut. I want it off, or at least to offset it with muscle (tone, not mass).

Hockey will provide a big cardio workout twice a week, so that will help, but the biggest factor will be eating right. I eat like sh*t right now. And, like Will, I've got a family history of diabetes and I need to start watching myself. I'm starting to feel like an old man, and I'm only 25!

I don't like that calculator. It has no variables for fat percentages, etc. I work out, am 6', and weigh 230lbs. That says I am obese. And to say that the best shape I could be in would be 174lbs or less is a lie. I have never been that skinny since graduating USMC boot camp, and I was a twig.

Why not everyone go to a gym, get a measurement of where you stand (fat % wise) and then get remeasured 12 weeks later. What would be better, I think, as everyone's body is different.

John might be onto something.... make the contest based on % of body fat lost... takes the differing-body-types variable out of the mix.

I agree with you there. In college I was power lifting & mountain biking consistently at 190 lbs. 5'9" @ 7% body fat. I'll get a body comp test sometime this week. My goal is to get back at that weight or at least close to it.

    welcome to THE F-CHAT FAT-OFF

my god man you're a stick!

according to that BMI, i am officially OBESE. :D either i'm much taller than i think or my scales are 20kg out.

i'm like 5'9", just weighed myself with digital scales and turned in at 95kg. the most i've ever been is 102kg, back in april last year.

    so here's my current stats:
    Height: 175cm / 5'9"
    Weight: 95kg / 210lbs
    Age: 28
    BMI: 31 kg/m2
    Status: OBESE
    Percentile: 86th

i could do with losing say 10kg and building a bit more buffness. i recall when i was in top athletic shape at 21 (ran 5-10km a day, loads of situps/pushups/weights, didn't drink, ate a lot less) i was 78-80kg, that still puts me in the "overweight" category and into the 61st percentile, the only people fitter than me back then were triatheletes. there's no chance i can get back to that, so mid-high 80kg (185-195lbs) is a reasonable goal with a moderate fitness level for me.

no recent pics, but here's me at 27 when i weighed somewhere around 100kg / 220lbs.

Here's a clipping from another board's weight loss / get healthy thread. While other threads have been started and closed out, they mainly consist of 50/50 daily. That's 50 pushups and 50 situps a day. It is a start and if you are like me, and cringe at the thought of high-impact running where your back is going to be sore... well, start out slowly! Very slowly! There is a proper way of doing everything. Now... get to it!

    LOL!

I am 6'4", 195 lbs, with (as of 3/04) approx. 7% body fat. Not bad for 43 years old.

    Oh...and Rich?

Hrumph. I used to really like you, but now I don't. 7% body fat?! grrrrrr.

Okay, I'll throw my hat into the ring along with USD $50 for the winner.

(and my clients will match 7x) ;) j/k

    Here are my stats now:

    6'2.5", 220 lbs
    18% body fat

Need to get down to maranelloman proportions.

    GOAL:

    195 lbs, 7% bodyfat

Here is a pic of me happily adding more calories into my body via a Macallan 12 on the rocks. Notice how happy both of my chins are.

    It's ON!

A lot of it is genetics, frankly, and some is fitness regimen.
