I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed before, but I'm getting tired of first turn pile ups and people getting knocked out before even one lap!

I think that if you CAUSE an accident that retires a driver in the FIRST lap, then you are disqualified for that race.

    Thoughts?

No need. Just have Grosjean start from the pit lane every race and there'll be no problem.

will never work. That said, I dont think that the one race ban did anything for GJ. Should be banned or the rest of the season now, it was unbelievable how he managed to **** up yesterday.

We should go back to 1998. The teams had 3 cars, one as a backup.

If there was a first turn wreck, one of the drivers jumped into the spare car and restarted the race.

There will always be true racing accidents, so just can't make a blanket rule like that. Otherwise you might as well make it a rule for the entire race, no? Why just the first lap? The instance with Webber, where he darted across the track, making it hard to blame somebody. Those calls will always be subjective. That's why it's important that all the people making those calls are entirely unbiased, which it's safe to assume that's NOT always the case :D.

But in clear cases of stupidity, I fully agree about race disqualificaton. And to make it fair, I'd add that the decision has to be unanimous among the stewards. That way, nobody can say it was biased in any way.

Crashes happen, always will. You can't regulate out crashing, if you try you will seriously compromise the whole point

That's why I think it should just be in lap one. There is just too much room for crashes in turn one. It happens almost EVERY race.

It used to happen much more frequently...it's actually been surprisingly few first lap incidents that retire a driver.

But that would mean not restarting with your qualifying tires, with a different fuel load, with a different set-up, and it would mean not forcing teams to pinch pennies during the season ...

.. Heck, yes, that's what they should do. ;)

When they did the replay of the crash, I have to agree with the Speed crew, didn't look like it was Grosjean fault.

You don't even have to hit anyone. Just the sound of gunfire tends to focus folks.

I'm no fan of too much policing, then the drivers become lemmings and just do procession races. It sucks that Alonso got eliminated twice now and might loose the title over that, but I rather deal with that disappointment then watch drivers "race" in sequential line behind each other.

You can't say one thing caused them the title, its a long season and so much stuff goes and doesn't go its way for the drivers. I mean you can say that Alonso crashed out twice in the first turn but then you can see that Vettel had his alternator take him out of first place much further along during two races. It tends to equal itself out between the drivers over a whole season and what happens happens. There's NEVER one moment that you can say was the sole reason for winning or losing a title.

I just ripped a page out of the Massa fans' book of excuses (it is actually a 5 volume set) for why he lost the 2008 title: They have it pinpointed to the refueling desaster at Singapore.

    See how easy that is?

    And yes, you're right.

How exactly? I think the speed crew needs a penalty for talking ****.

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Im5LV5OmhU[/ame] he had all the time in the world to avoid Webber.

They could only jump in the spare car if the race was red-flagged. If there were yellows or a safety car they were still out of the race.
