I am wanting advise on paint chip protection. My 308 and 430 have invisa shield and a shop told me today that if I remove invsashield and have ceramic polly coats put on, the this will protect against chips as well as invsashield. Can any one help me understand my options and whether what the shop told is true. Any advise at all is appreciated.

Well what comes to mind is the process of replacement. If any portion of it becomes damaged enough to need replacement, the poly coat my be more labor intensive to do. But then so would the shield wrap. Who knows. 3M makes the spray that turns to a wrap now. Maybe that's what they mean?

Regarding the ceramic coating, they showed me a bottle of liquid that would be used and they say it dries to an extremely hard surface. I wonder what the difference is between the ceramic and OEM clear coat. Thanks

Here's a tiny bit of information; I was at a car show this year where there was a Meguiar's demo guy showing their various buffing compounds, and he commented that some of the new high end cars were coming out with ceramic clear coats and that they were so hard that their compounds didn't do much against them.

I don't think that is correct, as the ceramic coating is more like a clear coat. The place I used for film, uses both, film and then ceramic wax.

    I think Luvair is correct.

it's probably something like 22PLE or GT tech. It's not too hard to take that stuff off once it's applied. it's labor intensive though. You have to compound the entire car to remove it. It does get quite hard, though damn shiny.
