I just tried to serve a collection debt to an Indian casino against one of their employees. The casino stated that there is no way that they will help out on a recovery against one of their employees since they are on Indian property.

It appears that our laws protect deadbeats that can get a job on a reservation! This is NUTS!!!

Well, I think technically they are *their* laws. Different jurisdiction.

Which is certainly a reason to have reservations about dealing with these folks.

    hyuk hyuk.

I find all of this reservation, legalized gambling, etc. rules absolutely ridiculous. The fact that they have been empowered through absolutely ridiculous amounts of financial gain (which in and of itself is a pretty lame thing) to start creating "their" laws is beyond silly. What's more, what about all of the american-indian awareness, or community development, or anything else that comes of "protecting their heritage" ?? All a bunch of bullsh|t.

    OUCH!!

That one made my head hurt.

I'm gonna take an aspirin now.

Might help with my doctor's recent diagnosis about those headaches I've been having

He told me I was a tepee and a wigwam.

He said I was two tents.........

    Not really.

What are you doing trying to serve a casino with the debt of one of their employees? They told you to get lost, what else should they have done?

Indian property or not, the debt is between you and the person that took on the debt with you.

Do you have too much coffee and randomly make improable **** up for the fun of it?

    Really, Peter? WTF?

It was the collection company that tried to serve, not me....And it was a court ordered garnishment.

it's a shame when you think of Native Americans, American Indians.............you think Casino and Gambling............here in Tulsa we have the Creek Nation Casino and the Cherokee Casino...when you walk into these places nothing but the name distinguishes it from any other casino..........think of indian reservation ........you start to wonder 'hey wheres the casino at'. Only good thing is if you want cheap Cigs, buy them from a Indian Smoke shop........no taxes $3 a pack.....a convient store that is on Indian land.....and that is land that a native american owns......there is one smoke shop here in a housing subdivision, cause the guy who bought the house is allowed to put a smoke shop up on his land no one can touch him......

I live in a small town where there are two casino's. I don't give them ten cents any more, as I see NOTHING that they are doing for the community.

Be careful, you never know who might be part Native American.

Personally, I have traced my geneology back to a nomadic tribe in the Southwest, the Fugawee.

They wandered the plains asking each other, "Where the Fugawee?"

I have a friend with a Cherokee. He wants to upgrade it to a Grand Cherokee but is considering a Tahoe instead.

I used to be a bank loans manager in the eighties for the Royal Bank of Canada among a couple of others.

Two groups of people never got credit at all unless it was secured by real estate or cash deposits.

Natives (you cannot repo anything on a reserve or garnishee natives)........and the other group was Government of Canada employees, who were immune to garnishments.

Postal workers were the worst for defaulting on credit obligations......even though they were the one of the highest paid categories of civil servant. Things have changed now regarding them......but the laws as they apply to natives and reservation property are still in effect.
