Many of you are familiar with my car since it has been the subject of a well-documented and exhaustive nut and bolt restoration by marque specialist Paul Newman since its acquisition in 2011:

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/boxer-19271-restoration.347921/

The initial purchase price plus parts and restoration receipts total in excess of CAD$850K (US$625K). Offers are welcome.

I was able to track down all three of the car’s previous owners and built-up a clear picture of what had transpired with the car over the years, following its initial arrival in 1978 at Chinetti Motors USA. The first owner (a Houston oil and real estate fellow) told Luigi Chinetti that he’d take the car, but that it would have to be metallic grey with a black interior, thus, the first round of changes came to pass. The second owner (a Houston lawyer) was happy with these choices and kept the grey on black scheme. The third owner (a Houston psychiatrist), however, rather fancied the color scheme depicted in the 512BB sales brochure, so he had the car painted Rosso Corsa, although he kept the black interior and changed the carpets to red.

Subsequent discussions with the factory confirmed that 19271 was originally Rosso Dino with a beige interior, and that prior to its arrival in the USA in 1978 it had been retained by the factory (i.e., from 1976 to 1978) since it was a "Ferrari Experience" car. Clearly, very little of the car's original patina had been retained and I now knew her to be a special “model prototype and Ferrari Experience” car, thus I embarked upon a full and accurate restoration with Paul.

The car was presented at Cavallino 2024 but did not score a platino award. Per the judges, "you needed another week to finish off this special and important car, and the deficiencies will be easy to correct for the most part".

With the above said, the car is now on its way to Paul for its shakedown drives and associated adjustments, and for corrections to the "deficiencies" noted above, after which she'll be ready for her new owner to take possession.

You asked the same question over in the restoration thread -- do you mind me asking why you want/need a breakdown of the costs?

I spent a lot of time looking over this car at Cavallino, and it’s very likely the BEST 512BB in existence. The workmanship is top-notch. The NOS parts are even more unobtainable now than when he started. The Rosso Dino over tan leather is spectacular. Beyond some typical post-restoration fettling, the car is as perfect as one could expect. You could start today with a “regular” non-prototype 512BB, spend $350K plus four to five years restoring it and you’d be at the same number this is on offer for. If you want the 512BB prototype, there is only ONE. And how often is a prototype on offer?

i think that expense would help sell the car.
Mike Sheehan is famous for saying, “pay for the restoration, get the car for free”.

curious as the what the judges nitpicked?
did it receive a silver or gols award? platinums are
tough to get with the new 97 pt guideline.
the color alone should add a few
    pts. its very nice.

Is it truly a prototype or is it just the first production 512 BB? Not trying to be demeaning, it looks like an exceptional car.

Only Platinum awards are given at Cavallino. Apparently the issues were quite minor (a few fit and non-op items) and the car will almost certainly get Platinum next year.

19271 (i.e., my car) is the prototype whereas 19677 was the first production car.

I remember when you brought 21171 to Cavallino. I remember giving you the original steering wheel. A little tired but what was I gonna do with it? Do you miss that car? You did a heck of a job restoring it. Didn’t sell in BaT back in Dec 23. Finally sold for higher number in a private transaction. That silver really was beautiful.

19271 being a special prototype should deserve a proper sale price. I hope so…..I still don’t understand how a Dino is worth 3x what a great Boxer garners…
