Throughout Ferrari’s illustrious relationship designing with Zagato, Pininfarina, Fioravanti etc. many amazing prototypes have been produced. Unbenounced to the public, these multi-million-dollar pieces of rolling one-off sculpture, trade hands amongst the automotive elite...

    - 2000 Pininfarina Rossa -

This design was a jaw-dropper in the automotive community, and it got people talking. Many noted its avant garde design and complemented it as a "...throw-back to long-bonnet Ferrari’s." While in retrospect, some see the design correlation between its tail-lights, and those of the Enzo.

    - 1989 Ferrari Mythos -

To many, the design of the Mythos screams Marchello Gandini. To others it is pure Ferrari. Coincidentally, the time period which this car was shown also brought the advent of the Diablo and Citzeta line. The designs are similar, and debates ensue as Ferrari and Lamborghini enthusiasts talk of "...who copied who?" As a side note, a few prototypes were build road-legal for the Sultan of Brunei.

    - 1998 Fioravanti F-100 -

This prototype was built by one of Ferrari's most notable coach-builders -Fioravanti. Leonardo Fioravanti designed Ferrari's 365 GTB/4 (Daytona). This F-100 prototype was build to celebrate Enzo Ferrari's 100th birthday.

    - 1987 Ferrari 408 Intergrale -

Ferrari are not known for using 4WD. This car was specifically designed for technical R&D. Only two (a red and yellow one) 'made Press.'

    - 1980 Ferrari 'Pinin' -

Ferrari made this show-car in 1980 to celebrate Pininfarina's 50th Anyversary. Much of the influence and inspiration for the 456/GT came from this model.

    - 1974 Ferrari CR 25 -

As an aerodynamics project, this car was a design collaboration between Fioravanti and Pininfarina.

    - 1993 Ferrari FZ93 -

Zagato designed, this car is individual to its very core.

    - 1966 Ferrari 365P -

Pininfarina designed, Ferrari were of the first to use a central driving position in a road going automobile.

    - 1976 Ferrari 308 GT Rainbow -

Designed by Bertone, this car was designed off of the Dino 308 GT4, and used a removable roof.

    - 1970 Ferrari Modulo -

Based off of the Ferrari 512S race car, this all-1970's Pininfarina design was unable to fully turn its front wheels. This was a significant problem after its development, due to the fact that steering is an advantage when it comes to driving.

    - 1996 Ferrari 456/GT 'Venice' Estate/Spyder/Saloon -

Ah, we harken back to the time when wealthy afficionados could order specialized body designs from their favorite coach-builders. This is exactly what the Sultan of Brunei did. Though he did not do it once, he did it at least three times. This car was bodied off of the 456.
Pininfarina re-designed this car from the windshield back, and what a car it came to be. Called the 'Venice', few of these cars were ever made. Three different designs were made - the Spyder, Estate and Saloon.

    - Ferrari Sbarro -

I will not pretend. I know absolutely nothing about this car, and have not been able to find any new information. Sorry. The only thing I do know, is that Sbarro designed this specifically for the Sultan of Brunei, though it re-sold. It uses a 512TR Engine & Transmission

    - Ferrari F90 -

This is a car that for a few years now, I have been interested in. If I am not mistaken it uses much of the TR, and only one was made for, you can guess who. I know and can find NOTHING about this car. I have only seen one other photo and have not been able to locate it at this point. If anybody can find any information on this car, photos, stats, etc. please E-Mail me at [email protected] . Thank you.

    - 1996 Ferrari F50 Bolide -

Not too much is known about this car due to the fact that one or two were made and the only man who has them - take a guess, locks them away. It is an F50 GT mod. to be honest.

    - 1996 Ferrari FX -

In my opinion, the FX has one of the most perfect interiors of any sports car. Flawless detail.

Specially made by Ferrari for - guess who. This FX is loosely based off the 512M and was designed by Pininfarina. Between two and eight of these cars were ever made. The main feature of the car is the transmission, which was developed by Williams BMW. The 6-speed sequential is similar to the unit found in the William's Formula 1 car, and supposedly cost over $1 million.

Through my interest in Ferrari Prototypes, I have found it difficult on more than one occasion to track down these amazing machienes on the internet. I hope with this tiny archive, I have satisfied the desire we all have at peaking into the conceptual world of The Prancing Horse.

I remember that Ferrari Rainbow prototype in particular at the time. It reminded me of the Fiat X1/9. Not surprising since it was a Bertone design.

    Very interesting. Thanks for posting!

The Ferrari "Sbarro" is a Sbarro concept called the Alcador. All I could find on it is that it's based on a Testarossa, and there were 3 built- that grey one, a red one, and a ? color one.

Excellent post! Funny how a lot of Ferrari one-offs (especially from the 70's) can't really improve on the original pininfarina designs. . . . ;)

The Cizeta body was designed alongside the Diablo (both rejected and revised) beginning in 1986. The Cizeta was publicly unveiled on December 11, 1988, before the Mythos. The Diablo was shortly afterwards.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the Rainbow in the Bertone museum at their design facility outside of Turin. There are a bunch of cool cars in there, including the prototypes for the Lancia Stratos and the Lamborghini Countach, both of which Bertone also designed.

I don't believe that it was designed for the Sultan of Brunei

This was made for the Sultan of Brunei (as far as i know). See pic below

None were "made" it was a shell that fit over the regular F50's chassis. It was a design study. My source tells me that they were never made. That has also been confirmed on another site (can't remember where) that said they were a gift from PF to the Sultan of Brunei (his brother actually. the sultan isn't that keen on cars) for his birthday or something but the people in brunei refused because of lack of funds or something
