I just bought a 1992 512 TR with 25 000 km! I already own a 575M HGTC which is a great pleasure to drive. But a 512 TR is something even more special I always dreamed about.

When I was at a car event last weekend, a friend who owns many many cars, appeared with his 1986 TR (single mirror). My wife just said “oh” when she saw him coming in his TR because she knew that this would pull the trigger for me.

The friend let me drive his TR the whole afternoon and the rest is history: On Monday I called the dealer with a 512 TR I was looking at for several months. On Tuesday I test drove the car and today I signed the contract. The dealer will prepare the car (it already has a fresh belt with a whole service done very recently) so I can pick up the car by Friday afternoon!!! Just ready for the weekend!

Here are some pics I took after the test drive.

Wow, you own a 575 HGTC, which is a fantastic car, and you still find something extra special in a TR, that's what I call heck of a tribute to the TR/512/M!

    Congratulations on the 512TR!!

It would be very interesting to hear the differences in driving the 86 Testarossa and the 512TR.

    Thanks!

Congrats! I've got to say that the Testarossa / TRs are growing on me. I saw one on the road recently and my head snapped, it looked great. Love the wide stance and the side strakes aren't as "radical" as they were back in the 80's.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the welcome and all the warm words!
I took delivery of the car yesterday evening. Drove the car home, had dinner and then went for a spirited drive. I had to take my son home from his friends and he really was eager for a drive through the hills. So we spent another 45 min driving 

Wow, what a blast. My son said “now this is a real Ferrari”. He was with me many times in my 575M and we both think that the 575M is a very nice car. But what a different animal a 512 is! You really have to work to drive this car and it is so much fun!!

I am really proud to be a member of the TR-Community!

Matt – Not so easy for me to explain the differences between driving a 86 TR and a 92 512TR since my experience with these cars is very limited (so far). IMO the TR is more difficult to start. I stalled the car twice because the throttle pedal needs some force to depress (what I am not used to) where the 512TR is very easy to work with the clutch and throttle pedal. I could not tell differences in the steering feel nor how the car feels on the road. There might be others who are able to describe the differences better but IMO they feel quite the same.

But there are huge differences between the 512TR and the 575M. I tried to describe these in the 456/550/575 section here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142390917-post6.html

so the 512 is for enjoying with work and fun and the 575 for enjoying without work and also fun :)

" The biggest difference is the steering. The 575M has power steering and thus is really easy to handle. The 512TR has no servo and you really need (your own) power to steer. Not only when parking but also in tight and slow corners. "

My 512TR is now equiped with electrical powersteering; only problem with that is that the wife now also drives our 512TR ... :)

You are now at the stage I was 5 years ago and you may need info for unexpected situations. At least that was what I needed then.

I made some threads with tips ... here ...

Mel – Maybe you should install a different clutch which needs more force to depress :).

When I parked the car yesterday evening I thought that the steering needs so much power that I am not sure if the wife could park the car.

Thanks for the link with the tips, but it does not work. I get “Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.”
