I am finishing up my Masters In Business Administration EARLY at the Harriet J. Wilkes Honors College here in Florida. The school is a public school that has a 4 year MBA program. The school requires that all students must live in mandatory housing for FOUR years which includes a mandatory meal plan. The price paid for housing and the meal plan equals to about 80% of the tuition for the school year!! The only waiver to not living in mandatory housing is if the student is married or pregnant.

Is it legal for a state university to make this mandatory?

I find that their policy CANNOT be legal considering that NO OTHER state university in Florida requires this.

Looking for any advice or opinions.

When a school has a policy like that it usualy applies to undergrads only.

indeed. you can also be exempt if you live within so many miles of the school. read the fine print. my undergrad was 1 or 2 years on campus living if you did not live in the city prior to enrollment.

thanks for the input! I am aware of the undergrad situation. I am not an undergrad. I have fought this all the way to the top. Dean's keep reverting back to school policy and really dont want to hear my arguement. I'm fighting this.

Man, that sucks. Perhaps consider a different school? If they're gonna be that stupid about forcing grown adults to live on their property....I'm sorry, that'd be a deal breaker for me.

Dude... You're very popular with the ladies - i witnessed that first hand... Why not just ask one of the single ladies to do you a favor - marry you... No ceremony of course, just something official at the county clerk's office, so you can shove that official piece of paper down the throats of the people trying to force you to live in some fixed housing situation...

You run a car shop and still go to "school"? Damn! Props, man, props!
I'll second the BS marriage thing. Just find a friend of yours to marry you.
Since they seem to love their bureaucracy, I would honestly say you're pregnant with a blood test from a girl awaiting a kid you know. They may not even make the connection!

    That's a specious argument.

Didn't you know the rules when you enrolled in the program? And by enrolling, agree to the rules of the program?
