Hi! I am in the midst of booking a trip to Spa to see Michael Schumacher at one of his famed tracks. Spents HOURS trying to work out how I can get to/from the track from Liege or Verviers. Need to be on the last Eurostar from Brussels to London on the Sunday night as connecting with my flight back to Australia. Anyone have ANY HINTS? Much appreciated Janne
http://www.infotec.be/index.aspx?PageId=633009098906010758&Type=Results Or better: Hertz rent-a-car... buslines probably won't run their normal schedules as every road around the track is deviated.
Is it not just one complete traffic jam? I would have thought that car would have been worse...am having trouble finding companies that open on Sunday for car pick up...but will keep trying. THanks so much for your feedback - much appreciated. Janne
+1. Spa is in a sparsely populated part of Belgium. As for Sunday rental drop-offs - if you rent at any international airport (Brussels, Antwerp, Maastricht, Aachen, Eindhoven etc), you should surely be able to drop it there? And as far as the traffic jam is concerned - what I can remember from the 1997 GP it wasn't too bad. BTW - not a bad idea to go to Spa this year. Onno
I agree, all big rental companies are represented at these airports. During the 1996 GP traffic wasn't too bad either, but I guess that more people are travelling to Spa this year as MS is driving, I'm thinking about it too. Michiel
Thank you so much for all your valuable feedback. Worked out that I can pick up a car on Saturday night from Brussels airport, so getting there!!! Main issue is the time to drive from Spa after the race...leaving 1700ish and be checked in at Midi by 2000 for the last Eurostar. Is 3 hours enough from track to Midi? Sorry for all the questions - your feedback has been fantastic!
There will be shuttles between Spa and Verviers train station. See http://www.f1belgium.com/en/newsletter/88-shuttle-5.aspx
If you can leave the car near Midi station then it should be enough. According to the calculations of my online route planner it would normally take about one and a half hours without traffic jams (it's about 150 kilometers). The route itself is pretty straightforward (almost all of it is highway).
Like has been said here above, a (rental) car is the best, fastest and most comfortable way to reach Francorchamps (unless you go by helicopter of course ) However, IF you should decide to use public transport after all, the most obvious itinerary is to travel to Verviers by train and take a bus there (lines 395 (Verviers-Malmedy-Reuland) and 294 (Verviers-Stavelot-Trois Ponts). Main problem is that there are only about 10 busses in each direction each day... I did it a few times when I was a teenager without a driving license in the early nineties. Never again!
The public bus website : www.infotec.be example : airport Brussels to Francorchamps Recherche d’itinéraires Votre recherche Lieu de départ ZAVENTEM Aéroport Bruxelles National Lieu d’arrivée FRANCORCHAMPS Route de Hockai Heure de départ 07:35 hr Départ/Departing Arrivée/Arrival Durée estimée/Estimed time 07:35 hr 10:11 hr 2h36 Go to "Recherche d'un itinéraire" and put the place you want to start. Then you put your place to go... Other example : Liege trainstation to Francorchamps : Departing Arrival Estimed time 08:05 09:11 1h06 You can buy a "Day-ticket" for 6 euro and can drive all day long.......any distance....in all Wallonie.
