I know it has happened to several folks here but never to me. I was out for a drive this afternoon (OK, I was in the Gallardo and not the 355). Saw an officer way back in the mirror. Made sure I was under the limit, going 53 in a 55. So the officer follows me for about a mile and then passes me and go ahead about a quarter mile. He then pulls off and lets me pass. Pulls out right behind me and follows for about 1/4 mile then hits the lights! I ask my wife, what in the world can he be stopping me for? So the guy is a young police officer maybe 25-30. Asks me to forgive him and if we were in a hurry to get somewhere? He said, "that's the baddest car I've ever seen and couldn't resist taking a closer look". I'm sure he could have gotten in trouble for stopping me for no reason but he was a pretty nice kid and wanted his picture taken with the car to show his brother. Told me, my brother would never believe I got to pull over a Lamborghini! I showed him the car and we talked about his 69 Camaro. All in all, not a bad stop but I would prefer not having the lights turned on like I was getting a ticket! Sorry to all you guys back in the snow, it was a beautiful sunny day here in central California. Have a great New Year! :)
    Blessings,
    Scott

Who cares about the 4th Amendment anymore, certainly not him or his Super. Cali is now letting Marines take part in DUI checkpoints, who cares about Posse Comatatus anymore. Sue that rat police intention greed basta*d.

Sounds outrageous to me. I would have got him fired for harassment. If he wants a picture of the car, he can be like anyone else and approach you like a civilian...then ask nicely for a picture..not use his position of authority to stop you. Best wishes for the New Year

Absolutely. Complete abuse of authority. What an *******. Get his ass fired. He has no business being a police officer if he thinks that is what he can do. I would get him fired.

This seems very surprising to me. Even if your a rookie, you don't pull over nice cars for fun. Something could go very wrong. How would he explain to the chief that he pulled over a Lambo then got hit while standing taking pictures of the car? For some people, getting pulled over is a very scary thing. Sooner of later he will come across someone who's not as nice as you.

    ...orrrrrr...

Be a good person in this holiday season and indulge the officer's very simple request, since you never know when you may need his help in the future. Unbelievable attitudes by some of the early posters here!

I wouldn't mind at all, if they'd be that honest about it: "I just wanted a closer look." Fine.

Heck, every time I had to drive the Ferrari onto the AFB, I'd be the car "randomly" selected for a "search". ;)

The one that annoyed me was in MA: When the EVO first came into the US, and I had one of the first ones in the area, a local cop stopped me when I was doing 20 in a 25 zone, because I "looked fast". If he'd just told me he wanted a closer look, I'd have given him the nickel tour, but when he tries to maintain the pretense that I'd done something wrong ...

... I think he was flustered that it was some old guy driving a ricer, not the gullible kid he expected. :D

I got pulled over three times in the first six months in the EVO. No tickets, just pulled over.
But not one admitted to just wanting a closer look.
After the EVOs and STis got more common, I didn't get pulled over anymore.
(Or maybe the cops got the message that, in snow country, it's not just kids buying the rallye ricers. :p)

I would be very angry. This guy needs to be told it's not OK to pull someone over just because he feels like it.

You should have asked him if he's pulled over a 20 year old girl because he's never done that before too.

Once you put on those lights and siren, anything could have happened for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

There was a case in NY not that long ago that some firefighters were using their firetruck to go out to get take out food for the station. They used the lights and sirens to get their faster as they went through red lights. Guess what happened? Yep, someone didn't hear the sirens and plowed into them... killing the driver. The firemen involved were fired and the family of the driver sued the city for millions. Anything can happen.

Sorry, this is not right. Its an abuse of power and a lack of respect to the general public at large. If he had some suspicion about you or the car and could explain it, that would be OK. But, to do it just for his entertainment is not right.

Its OK to be an enthusiast. Do that off duty. It's not OK to use the power of the police for your personal entertainment.

    Sure guys,
I agree, he shouldn't have done it. But, what the heck, I wasn't that put out. He was a nice kid. Not that big of a deal to me. Now, if I had been in a hurry to get somewhere, I may have gotten a little upset. But, I was just out for a drive with my wife, we had a good time and now have a nice story to tell. These guys do a tough job, no need to get too worked up by giving them a little thrill now and then.

I've had it happen to me, and all I can say is they are overstepping their authority!

Great, they're Cops who like cars, but when they pull you over or run your tags for no legal reason, it's illegal and an invasion of privacy!

How often do you think this happens to good looking young women; it's a lot!!! Get their age, address & phone number etc., now that's really scary if you have daughters.

you never know, if you're in a smaller town, and you are happy for the cop to pull you over, chances are they will tell their other cop mates, and you might end up getting away with a few extra kms over the limit

very cowardly way of thinking, and exactly what they want you to do so they can keep you under their thumb. pathetic.

it is illegal and wrong. don't let them get away with it, or you will only have yourself to blame next time they overstep their authority in this manner or any other.

Is it "abuse" of power? Sure

could you be an arse about it and get the guy in "trouble"? Sure

could he have been a arse about it and written you up for something? Sure

would his supervisor have been a little upset that he pulled someone over for nothing more than a picture? Sure

did you make a friend that will likely look the other way the next time he sees you or another exotic committing a ticketable if not arrestable offense? Sure

dont get jaded, most of us here live in a world where exotics are "common". The rest of the world does not.

How very interesting to see the extremely differing viewpoints on this matter. I gotta say, I think I'd be flattered if I got pulled over just so the cop could look at the car. I really don't think it's a big deal. Then again, I've never been in that situation.

You can bet he'll tell all his cop friends about it though, and those guys, in turn, may become your friends. Cop friends are good :)

Well, cops usually have cop friends. Make friends with one, maybe a few others will treat you decent. Piss one off and you might just have more problems than you ever imagined. Absolutely it was an abuse of power. And power corrupts. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, and this is one I would leave alone. But really, he is young, a kid really, I say give the young man a break and move on.
