Yesterday I got pulled over in my viper for apparently going through a red light. The truth of the matter is I was originally in a right hand turn/streight lane with traffic and moved over to an all streight lane that was completely clear. The light was green when I switched, but as I moved closer it turned yellow. I went through the YELLOW light at a higher rate of speed. (Nothing insane, but not slow either) The cop said hes doing me a favor by writing me a red light ticket and could be writing me a ticket for much larger offenses. I thanked him and he was on his way, of course not without leaving with a few strange comments about how im not cool. WTF?

I think the ticket is BS as im a younger guy with a red viper, who passed under a YELLOW light. Im not concearned with the price of the ticket (125). What I am concearned about is an increase in insurance. My record is perfect and Ive never been ticketed for anything. Ive heard some people have been succesful in negotiating plea bargains with the prosecuter. I would hope to have this reduced to a non-moving violation with which would not be reported to insurance. Does anyone have any experience with plea bargaining or been through a similar case?

    Thanks for any info.

few weeks ago, i got pulled over for the same issue. i remember goin thru a yellow light, too much of speed for me to stop. so i went thru, and got pulled over.

he claimed that i went thru a red light, and i argued and said no, it was yellow. finally, he decided to 'let me off'.

it's kinda funny, cos the rules says, red stop, green go, and yellow, prepare to stop.

Not sure exactly on stipulations for Deferred Adjudication or Defensive driving, but you should look at those options. They should be available since it was a moving violation. Defensive driving is usually the cheaper route pending the fine total. On top of that, you'd get a certificate of completion which would possibly help to reduce your insurance premium. I have to take it every couple of years regardless as a condition of my job, but I saw about a 10% savings on my insurance. Although, I don't own a Viper, sigh....lol

Call a traffic attorney, they may be able to plead it down to something.

oops, forgot to mention that what I posted keeps them off your record as well, which you stated was important. There are several attorneys here in San Antonio who "guarantee" your ticket dismissed or to be kept off your record. Most the ones I used in the past only charged me 25 dollars less than what the citation cost.
