Sometimes it's harder thinking about doing something, than actually doing it. Of course, I was under the influence of my test drive....but I put the deposit on my first f-car. A beautiful 1987 328 GTS.

Now I just need to ship, or drive her home. Going from CO to ID...any suggestions on transport? Got quotes out to Rich's and Horseless Carriage. Any thoughts on driving the 800 mile trip???

    Waiting on the buyer's remorse....

I bought an '87 last November. NO buyer's remorse, other than that I wasted a few decades driving cars that weren't this exhilarating and gorgeous.

I've heard good things about Intercity and Horseless Carriage. My car came from NC via a family-owned small trucking business - probably wouldn't help you in this case.

I second that. Change all the fluids first of course.

    Cheers and congrats.

I had a good experience with intercity lines. Would use them again. But 800 miles is driveable!

If you ship her, use Intercity, a lot of satisfied customers here. I used Horseless on time in the past and never again. They arrived much later than promised thier phone customer service was sub-par to my standards.

    What color is it?

If the car has a fresh or near fresh major service then I would drive it. If the major service isn't up to date then I would ship it because I wouldn't want it to break down on the road. The only reason I had the dealer ship my car the 500 miles is because I bought it in December and the snow already started.

I agree, if it has been serviced within the last couple of years, just check all fluids and drive it home.

The major was done in the fall of 04...been driven regularly since. The whole shipping thing has become a challenge since I'm a smokejumper and my summer schedule is tough to nail down. Getting one day off every 21 during the season.

I also hate to throw miles on it and add rock chips....

But it would be soooooo much fun to do a road trip across Utah and Idaho.

Thanks for the advice and the pics will be up when she is home.

Congratulations on the '87 328!!! Enjoy the car! You won't be dissapointed with owning it!!

I bought my car from a private owner in NC and I drove it home (550 miles). It was kind of nice. I got to know the car while driving it home and was able to figure out what I wanted to restore and what I didn't. Spending my first few hours in it on the highway really helped me bond with it and understand what I liked and didn't like about the car.

To me, I didn't care about adding the miles becasue I'm going to keep the car as long as I live.

My .02 for ya! I highly, highly recommend Passport/FedEx Ground Transport. Very professional and they only carrie 6 cars in fully enclosed trailers. All the drivers work for the company with company trucks. You can monitor them driving online. They arrived on the promise day and they arrived a day early!
I have had several high end BMW's transported with them and they are great!
Good luck and Congrats on the new baby!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a great experience with Passport as a shipper. In fact, their driver arrived in town earlier than expected, and when he called me, I asked if it was at all possible for him to meet me a little later. No problem - he had a long lunch and killed time until I was available to take delivery.

If you're contemplating a drive, just remember that the 328 will be hotter inside than what you're likely used to - something to consider if you're driving at the height of summer. It all depends on your tolerance for sweating.

....would have drove it, but with fire season still rolling along I can't guarantee where I'll be from day to day.

Would have been a fun jaunt. When I got my porsche RS america, the first trip was from Salt Lake City to Boise.....LOTS of open road on that trip.

if you ship it, be sure you take pics upon arrival, showing the shipper's truck, the car in the van, unloading, EVERYTHING.

I did, long long ago, and it's kinda neat having pics of the new baby's arrival...

We'll she arrived...the 87 328 GTS has a new home. Used Rich's Classic Transport and all went well. The 328 was well taken care of during the journey and Rich made every effort to work with my schedule.

    Another satisified customer...
