I purchased my first 246, a 1972 GTS, vin no. 04244. It has gone through the Ferrari Classiche certification and has been presented as a very honest car. I hope to receive it sometime late this week. I am wondering if anyone has had any history or knows anything about the car? I have been on Dino Registry which is great, but sometimes that information is not aways accurate or is incomplete. Appreciate any help/input! Thanks again.

very pretty car! a quick comment...you may want to have the front wheel alignment looked at as the front wheels look like they could benefit from a camber adjustment. that said, it may just be the photo angle.

Congratulations on a spectacular Dino, welcome to the Fratelli Dino!

Did you get tools, chock or an emergency triangle?
Perhaps help the Dino Register be more complete by registering

Thanks to all for the kind reception. Got tools, jack, all books- don't know about other stuff but expect not. I will register when I get the car, hopefully by the end of this week.

Thanks again, everyone. Mike Call, of Steve Harris Imports in Salt Lake City, who had the car, tells me that Classiche certification runs between $6350-$6600 for a Dino, with the difference the cost of the labor to get it done. They are an authorized Ferrari dealer.

Pardon for being slightly off topic for my own inquiry but was red exterior your first choice of colors?
What were the top three colors that you found attractive on the Dino?
    Thank you

My first choice would have been a 73 or 74 yellow GTS, with tan Daytonas with black inserts and tan interior. I think I know pretty much every car available out there and what they cost. Flew to Beverly Hills a couple of weeks ago and saw the yellow C and F's car that Shawn Williams has at Exclusive Motorcars. I almost did a trade on that with a 1953 corvette that I have, but that car wasn't quite right ( color off, interior not original design) and with the 53 selling last week at the RM sale in Dallas for $346,500, I'm glad the deal did not come together ( I was also offering quite a bit of cash ). Bill Noon had the exact car I was looking for at Symbolic, yellow on tan, looked good but even though it was a USA car, it had been converted to a European look with smaller sidelights/reflectors etc. and I'm too much of a purist. He recently sold that car for $280,000 delivered, I believe, which was a pretty good deal. I am still looking for a yellow car and will offer up my Corvette as currency if someone is interested. It was restored right after the car that Don Davis sold by the same company and has a few features that his did not. I could also be interested in a GT or 206 as well.

Are you taking it back to it's European roots?

Yes, back to the original specs as it was an Italian delivery Dino GTS in Oct 1972 (Thank you Dino Compendium).

First stop was stripping, now starting nearly 2 months of metalwork to remove all bondo and rust then bring surfaces up to level so there will be a consistent thickness of paint.
