Looking for your input, looking to get into my first F-Car and I'm looking at a vehicle on the other side of the country.

Wondering if anyone on this board has had dealings with Daytona Auto Center Ltd?

So I put a deposit on a 05 Giallo 430 6 speed manual 2 days ago at a dealer - Daytona Auto Center Ltd and wanted to do a PPI at Ferrari Maserati of Ontario.

I spoke with the service manager Ken, and asked to book a PPI - he says sure its $600 ish and well get the vehicle in next Thursday and I agree.

Ken then asks me, who will be dropping off the vehicle, and I tell him I'm buying from a small dealer and they will drop off the car for me.

He replies - " I'm sorry Sir, Daytona will not be able to drop off the vehicle for you. We can inspect the vehicle if you plate the vehicle and bring it in yourself"

    A) Its a PPI and if I plate it, whats the point of a PPI
    B) Im in town only for a few days and I reside on the other side of Canada

I try to reason with him and it goes no where -and says that these are directions from Upper management.

Daytona Auto also services & sells used exotics, so my question is - Should I be confident in doing a PPI and purchasing a car from the same dealer? and is Daytona actually a reputable company?

They seem like they are though theres numerous 360s, 430s, 355s, Gallardos, Porsches, and one of the guys in the shop used to be on Schumacher's F1 pit crew back then.

Look forward to seeing if I should do a PPI at Daytona.

    Thanks,

Daytona has a very good reputation on this board and anywhere in the country. I wouldn't hesitate in getting any service performed there. The technicians (Alex, Massimo) are top notch as is John (co-owner). I understand getting a PPI done where you purchase the car can seem counter intuitive, Daytona is highly unlikely to jeopardize their reputation. No affiliation, just a customer.

Don't know any of the scene up North..

Will they offer a warranty for 30 days? Because that's what it sounds like if they stand behind what they say about the car. I personally don't care what the seller thinks about a car with their inspection. If its a great car it should be corroborated by a second opinion. Its my money that's buying the car.

I dealt with silliness like this when I was shopping for my 360. One guy wanted a $1600 deposit for the car to leave the lot for a PPI. Naturally I bought from someone else. I know that the community is a small one, but there are alot of 430's out there...

Daytona has a great reputation. That said, I would take a PPI result with a grain of salt if it was done by the same dealer who is selling the car as it is a conflict of interest. Personally, I would not have a problem purchasing a car from Daytona, but I understand not everyone would have the same comfort level that I do.

I wonder why FoO won't do it without a plate. Perhaps it has to do with road testing the vehicle, but if so, I don't know why they couldn't just slap a dealer plate on it.

The issue here and I know a lot of people have a similar experience is that FoO despises competition and will do anything to make it hard for competitors. While other exotic dealers just go about their business and provide excellent service and have clients FoO tends to drive people away, especially by their pricing. Daytona provides great service, sells good clean cars, and a lot of people use them for their Ferraris and Maseratis because the prices are realistic and they treat people well. I'm not saying FoO doesn't treat customers well, but the dealer principal loves the newest owner and if you show up in nothing but a 2014 bought from him you are nobody.

As far as technical ability, how about one of Schumacher's former crew members: Massimo Conti is a tech at Daytona.

Thanks guys, The car seems like it is in great shape and they are going to have the car on the hoist for me tomorrow and run over a few things. I wanted to do a PPI for my piece of mind at a Ferrari dealer but I wanted to to double check their reputation because John, Alex and Steve seem like people that are running a proper business that don't screw people.

I bought my first Ferrari (a 430 spider) from FofOntario but I had some mods done at Daytona, these guys are first class and stand behind their work. They know how to work on these cars. I would trust them, but to be sure inspect the car yourself and tell them if there is anything you are concerned about. I think they are the best independent Ferrari service provider in Canada.

So my friend, did you get that new toy! I noticed one being sold on their Facebook page with a new exhaust! Would that be you! If so, congrats, if not good luck on your quest for one.

Yes, it is on the way. They ended up lowering the car 1 inch all around and adding a capristo stage 3 exhaust on the car.

Can you post the link of their FB page when you get a chance?

Thank you! it is my first F car and im excited for the car to arrive.

Sweet! Nice to hear. I was by there today to check out their silver 430 and meet Alex but it seems they were having lunch at the time.

Congrats and please let me be your friend and show me your ride! I promise I won't stalk you, lol! Enjoy in good health! A beautiful summer awaits you.

I suspect that a PPI inspection is more truble than it is really worth. I know it is done, however, think about this. By performing the inspection, you place yourself between the buyer and seller. Not a good position for a nominal fee. You call out problems and then you potentially have issues with the dealer. You miss something and say it is ok, you have a problem. Think about this, you inspect the car, it is fine, and something snaps after a few hundred miles.

We do not have a dealer here. The closest is 2 hours awy. I bought my car from a reputable Ferrari dealer 5 hours away, and figured I would rely on them. My neighbor bought a F 430 spider locally and sent it by truck two hours to the Ferrari dealer for the PPI which really surprised me. They upgraged his headers under warranty. From a business prospective I would not want in-between
