Auction houses and their descriptions and stories...sigh. Half-truths, fabrications, dramatizations

A good story might drive up the price?

This info can easily be verified by asking Michelotto.

Still a bit misleading as Facetti is Virgilio Facetti and not Carlo Facetti of Carma FF fame :(

    Hello everybody,
This car is indeed a car with a special history…
It was bought by Carlo Facetti (nothing to do with Virgilio Facetti…), which prepared it via Effegi in 1983.
He sent the car in 1985 to Michelotto and Cazzola, to make the « Michelotto » body, chassis and bodywork preparation (invoices of these modifications on the files.
Today, it stills remain with these really special modifications, that you can only see on the 4 other Michelottos Gr.B.
You can’t really say that it is the 5th of these 4 made, but it can be considered in a practical way as such.
Hope to see you guys at the Tour Auto around the car !

Last but not least, it was bought back in 1986 by Pro Motor Sport… the Scuderia who bought the 4 308 Gr.B !
    Sign of the destiny…

Unfortunately that is in contradiction to the sales info provided by Aguttes: Ferrari 308 Gr.B - Lot 33

Michelotto and Cazzola are not one and the same. Additionally, if invoices and documentation of that work exists then why wouldn’t the auction house include copies in the description? I’m not disputing this is a valuable race car with interesting history, but the connection to Michelotto is precarious at best and fantasy to drive the price up at worst.

Sorry, I switched the names ! The car was bought by Virgilio, not Carlo.

Exactly, but Cazzola was working with Michelotto on the 308 Gr.B.
I have the bills, I can send them to you if you want.

Why aren’t you insisting these documents be shown in the auction gallery of photographs?

inspection and authorization of Michelotto cars will be done by.....Michelotto
So if one wants a Classiche book with this car: bring it to Italy.

The truth is the car could be a great buy in the guidance range assuming Michelotto and Ferrari are on the same page. You certainly couldn’t buy one of the original built cars for this kind of money…

This car traded yesterday, April 8, 2025 (a day of global market volatility and sell offs) for €774,800 ($850,000). I suspect advertised differently and with complete documentation of the Michelotto connection including documents shown above this car would have done even better. Very interesting stuff and a car that’s guaranteed to be a lot of fun for the new owner.
