Yesterday I had a chance to put my Qvale on a dyno. I was just curious, & I was offered a free run, so now I know that it has a whopping 271 rwhp. That's about what it should be given the factory rating of 320, no surprises here. For only $10k, I can add about 100 more with a s/c, but it's really quite adequate for just cruising around.

A Qvale has a 4 valve cobra motor if im not mistaken. You could put a vortech on it and be making 400rwhp+ on a stock long block.

Well the badge says Mangusta, but in order to avoid confusion with the real Mangusta, I just call it a Qvale(there was only one model of Qvale ever made).

Some pics & details over here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2940888

    Enjoy

I think the Bigua was just a name used in the concept stages. All of the Qvale's were marked Mangusta to my knowledge. There might be some out there that got away with the DeTomaso badging before the falling out.

Maybe you explained this elsewhere here, but if I may ask, what drew you to the Qvale that made you want to own one? Just curious, since I could never figure out what the car's 'competitive advantage' was while it was being sold, aside from rarity.

No, I haven't explained why I got this car before, so I will answer your question. I don't know if you have ever driven one before, because in order to compare any car(or motorcycle) that's always important.

In some particular order, the main reasons I bought it(& then had to sell my C5 z06).

    1. It's a nice car to drive. Handles well, reasonable amount of power, great seats, fun, comfortable
    2. People don't know what it is/They have never seen one before
    3. Options are nice to have, Coupe, Targa, or Convertible to suit my mood or weather
    4. Practical. Italian Exotic looks with good ol American Furd drivetrain, no worries or expensive maintainence
    5. Great value, for around $30k they seem to be a bargain to me. I have a hunch that they will not depreciate any further

I like the car myself, both for what it is and for the DeTomaso connection. I have in the past tried to get my wife to get one but to my dismay she wanted a PT cruiser of all things. The Qvale is great, tons of torque and it looks like nothing else out there. It was also done by Gandini which for me is a plus.

Any new Bigua/Mangusta pics out there with aftermarket wheels?

The styling is unusual but they look like interesting cars. The chassis should be nothing short of outstanding considering the designer.

I had one as a rental years ago. The PT Cruiser is the worst pig I ever drove. I would rather drive a Prius that only has eco mode.

    +.5

Dodge Caliber rental car was worse, but the PT was a close second.

Geez what the heck man? They're like the Corvettes of Fiat brand, every union guy has one.

Couldn't find an exclusive Porsche like a 911 C4S 2001.4 Commemorative April production edition?

Sort of like 308s ... Hey if you make a lot of something eventually the price drops.

Well, I have owned a couple Corvettes before (but I'm not a union guy), so I guess I'm consistent. I have only owned one Porsche, that was a 3.6 Turbo, which was kind of exclusive ;)

The trouble is they ARE pretty easy to buy for relatively little money so yes a lot of people can afford to "buy" one, even a union guy. But the first big dealer repair charge will be a wake up call. So it doesn't work too well as sarcasm. What's sad is that these cars will be run into the ground beyond the rescue stage because the proper repair expense is just not worth it. They still ain't Toyotas even if they were a big jump in quality.
