Well, with snow in the forecast for the weekend it looks like I will be putting the 365 GT4 away for the winter. Due to a very busy work schedule I drove the car about 1500 miles this summer. All of the trips were probably at least 30 miles so the water and oil temps got up to full temperature every time I took the car out. I use Mobile1 15-50 synthetic oil and Baldwin filters. Before I go and drain out the 18 qts of oil does anyone have a reason why I would not want to change the oil? I’m just putting this out there to hear different opinions! Thanks!

P.S. I posted this in the Tech section also.

The argument for changing it now before the long quiet period is that you drain out the various acids and other contaminents that have collected in the oil from running it over the period since your last change. The thinking is that putting in fresh, clean oil and then running it for enough time to circulate it throughout the engine pretty much cleans away those contaminents from the oily parts so that they are clean during the hibernation.

    Hello gents
maybe a futher idea on the oil cleanliness/contaminants
Having had the sump off recently getting the bottom cover off gives access to the filter there and any gunk built up over time as its the lowest part maybe not nessecary depending on engine wear but certainly easy and cheap as the gasket is not expensive to replace.
    Regards

"acids and contaminates" are not what they used to be with modern synthetic oils. Your Mobil 1 will protect you for another year of similar driving. Save some money and the environment at the same time (then go out and run the car at 12 mpg!).

I normally do 5000 miles per year and change my $12/quart Red Line once per year, but this year I did a lot less miles and it will stay in for another year.

I have found issues with stored cars and enthanol based fuel. I now run only enthanol free fuel in my Ferrari's and all of my collector cars that we store over the winter. Ethanol in fuel will separate over time and then it will draw moisture to the bottom of your aluminum fuel tanks because ethanol is heavier than gas.

Over a period of time the enthanol will draw moisture to the bottom of your tank and cause corrosion that will eat though the bottom of your tanks. My 308gtsi is a prime expample of this action. Now I need both tanks for this car. This happened over 1 winters storage.

I would suggest anyone storing a Ferrari with aluminum fuel tanks find an ethanol free fuel supplyer and start using it, especially when you are going to store the car for the winter. You can find ethanol free fuels at a web site cleanfuels.com. This site lists stations by state and city.

Similar to what "put away for the mudslide and wildfire seasons" in some parts of California means. :D

Just yesterday I bought some Starbrite "Star Tron" emzyme fuel treatment. It is formulated to counteract against specifically ethanol in modern gas, and also disperses water and helps clean the entire fuel system including the tank(s). In Florida, where my 1980 400i is located, this problem can be huge. I am about to add it to my cars tomorro. You can aslo use it with octane booster if you curently use them..Google" Star Tron " and check it out. I hope that this is of some help to someone..Jacques.

here in "halo alto" ca we have no snow, ice, mudslides, tsunamis, hurricanes, typhoons, sand storms, locusts, range fires, etc..just a tremor now and again.

i even bought a daily driver with no a/c [honda s2000cr] for that hot summer 1/2hour.
