What is the function of this O ring on the QA-1? Since it slides freely on the shaft, should it be at the bottom or top of the shaft at installation? Thanks.

Good question Michael. I never found out what it's purpose was for. It doesn't really do anything. I did use it to mark what the full travel of the shock was though.

It performs well as a travel pointer as mentioned, but, it mainly serves to help prevent damage to internal valves if the shock is fully compressed.

It is a travel indicator, much too small to dampen the forces of bottoming the shock rod into the body of the shock. BASF makes a wonderful material for jounce bumpers.

    Best,

Yeah I was thinking that too Rob, that o'ring section is far to small for that ;)

Soory Rob, I should have been more specific, I did not mean to infer it as a bump rubber, merely that when off the vehicle many manufacturers limit compressed length to prevent possible damge.

    That's fair enough Brian ;)

I have never seen an o'ring but only steel rod to limit the shock not only for that reason you state but also to compress the shock to package it smaller also to freight :)
