I recently purchased a Tamiya 1/24 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti (model #24137) and decided to check the prices on ebay. I found 2 listings that are saying it's a rare, discontinued model. They are charging 3x what I paid for mine. Anybody know if it really is that rare? I'll link the listings below, and no relationship to seller.

Like a lot of manufacturers Tamiya have production runs, so when a kit goes out of production it becomes rare, then a year later it is in production again and it isn't. Ebayers have cottoned on to this and are often trying to cash in on a temporary market.

That makes sense. I was browsing through some of the other models from the same sellers and noticed that pretty much all of them were listed as "rare." I have some decent ebay experience so I rarely go for the first thing I find. Luckily, I'll be able to find some good models at a local shop. :)

No kit made by Tamiya is rare. Seriously, when a company like Tamiya makes a kit, it is released in tens of thousands of copies. Even their first releases that were never ever re-released are relatively easy to find. Same goes for every major plastic model company, with very few exceptions.

For whatever reason those Alfas are quite pricey maybe people don't think that there is sufficient demand for them to be re-released? One of the few remaining hobby shops I go to has them and I keep thinking about picking up the Martini car.

Not so rare anymore, Tamiya is reissuing the kit. The hard 155 to find is the Martini version. Rare Tamiya does exist.Try to find a 1/12 th scale Marlboro - Texaco McLaren M23. Bring lots of cash...........
