Qualifying set to use 2015 format from China
Today old format is officially installed for the China GP this weekend! Final approval has been passed. Goodbye knockout formula! Formula 1 qualifying reverts to 2015 format before Chinese GP - BBC Sport
A good example of how, if they stick together, changes can happen in short order. JT & Bernie even pushed back for a while, but they (and the rest of the world!)) got what they wanted. Cheers, Ian
The weather might help mix qualy this weekend upcoming. 60% chance of rain on Saturday. Dry on Sunday!
Hmmm.... Personally, I think I'd rather it be the other way round..... This (old) qualy format works pretty well IMO at finding the quickest guys, who's where relative to their mate, etc. Rain turns it more into a lottery of 'timing' in most cases. Too many 'woulda', coulda', shoulda's' for my taste. OTOH, I'll take a wet race anytime! Cheers, Ian
+1 Admittedly, they'll probably get the front row again. They're quite simply doing a better job than the others right now. Doff the cap & do a better job! It may not be the "height of excitement", but lets be honest here, when has F1 quali ever been any different? I've seen some classics, & watched a few more on the TV, but most times we've got a pretty good idea ahead of time if we're honest. Nature of the beast. Cheers, Ian
Hey, don't go dragging the good name of The Muppets through the mud by associating them with the FIA! All the best, Andrew.
If Hami get's pole he's still starting 5 spots down because of the tranny so Seb will probably be ahead by the first corner and Kimi may already be P2 as well.
Don't be so sure, yes the Turbo won't be fixed before Spain but with Hamilton taking a 5 spot, there is a great chance for Ferrari to top the charts this weekend given the race pace of the car is actually just as good as the Mercs.. Plus with the single paddle clutch bite adjustment that Ferrari have this year, their starts are better than the others...
Thanks to the Hamilton penalty we prob will see a Ferrari on the front row. Thank god I'll take it. If both Ferraris can jump nico at the start and Kimi can hold him up maybe we have a chance here.
Well let's see if Kimi can keep his butter fingers on the paddles this race. I think this is the 2nd or 3rd times I've heard the "oh my finger slipped" excuse from him since last year. I think a dark horse and always potential spoiler is Massa... not for the win or podium but just a "temporarily get in the way" kinda thing. He has incredible starts and takes off like a rocket ship a lot of times. If he... and I guess even Bottas... qual high tomorrow and with Lewis taking the penalty... there's a recipe for some interesting laps after the start. Even if Williams does manage to get to the front or near it.. the shock will catch them off guard and they'll make 3 or 4 strategic blunders in the first five laps to dash their chances like they always do. All things being equal... flames, smoke, or mistakes aside... it should likely be Nico, Seb, and Kim as 1,2,3. If Merc failed to fix their launch issue and both Kimi and Seb take the start... it could be a good race. Hopefully Ferrari won't blow it again with a poor strategic call.
Realisticly, it will come down to strategy if one or two Ferraris are able to jump Nico at the start.
If they stuck together they would of never introduced it in the 1st place Bernie started this nonsense then pretended like it wasn't his fault (typical) JT is the worst President in the history of everything,.. Experimenting in public makes F1 look like a joke. Not a good example no
