    i saw the threads in the archives, thought i would start another and ask a few questions, links and info from players would be great as i am looking to buy some stuff and play war with some crazy friends from work. they are all ex military spec ops and are sure to kick my ass, but it should be fun.... :)

    choice so far: AEG rifle and a gas pistol as a sidearm. leaning towards a MP5 full auto and a Glock 17. i dont understand the "upgrades" and "mods". what are they for ? how do they effect the reliability and safety of the guns?

    i dont want a really high FPS as i DONTwant to hurt anyone, or get nailed with a full auto burst of 500FPS .20g bb's . i figure about $700 for a nice AEG, a pistol and accessories / safety equipment. at what FPS does it become unsafe for close battles?

    also ..... how loud are these gas / electric guns? is the sound of a full auto airsoft gun going to piss off the neighbors / Police? with the 2 Ferrari's i would prefer NO EXTRA ATTENTION :) .

    in my limited experience w/ airsoft, the firm "Marui" supposedly makes the best ones. but, of course, this is in reference to the accuracy in portrayal of the real gun -- not necessarily the precision or FPS of shooting it. for one, the marui airsofts are going to be heavy (just like the real thing).

    i have a tec-9, glock 17, beretta 92, and the long-barreled beretta they used in robocop. none of these are marui, unfortunately..but crappier brands like KWC. oh, and my beretta92 broke, darnit.

    What place would you be ordering an AEG from? Tokyo Marui is the best AEG you can get. Western Arms would be best side arm, a Tanaka is very good as well. I'm still procrastinating on getting a Luger p09 myself. Stock FPS for an AEG is usually around 280ish fps. My Marui p90 shoots around their and shoots as far as some upgraded MP5s, just not nearly the same velocity. This is due to it's "long" barrel. Stock FPS is good for CQB if that's what you'll be playing. As far as how loud AEGS are? Eh, they aren't that loud, nothing the neighbors would mind if doing single bursts, but in constant auto bursts from several guns questions from neighbors might be raised. "As in what's that sound?" I think it'd be best to tell your surrounding neighbors what you'll be doing so they don't think your really trying to kill your buddies or them and call the cops on you. These are acutal 1:1 scale replica weapons afterall. Gas guns are different, will you be getting a blowback or non-blowback? Non blowbacks are quiet, they have tut tut sound when shooting. I think it's like tapping a remote against a desk. Blowbacks are much louder, and cooler. Blowbacks I think have a loud thack thack thack sound. As loud to a car door closing hard.

    Courtesy of redwolfairsoft-" How loud are airsoft guns?
    Gas blowback guns typically sound similar in nature and loudness to popping a fully inflated balloon. AEGs are a little bit quieter and almost sound like a hammer smashing louding on a plank of thick wood. No airsoft gun can possibly match the loudness of a real gun."
    Personally I think they are exagerrating on how loud the sounds are.

    Upgrades? If I remember correctly upgrades consists of an upgraded motor, gears, barrel(longer barrel=longer straighter shot), and I think upgraded hop up rubber. I haven't really looked into upgrading my gun since I think it's sufficent, but I believe what I mentioned is what's involved when upgrading. Redwolfairsoft,com is a good place for info, and they also have a forums as well. I ordered my stuff from gunsandguys.com though, they had better prices, and they have fast shipping too. However, I just checked their site and they don't offer as much stuff as they used to. Relaiblilty for upgrades? My freind has an upgraded mp5, shoots 370+fps, and has put tens of thousands of rounds through it. Never skips a beat, always reliable, and one of the best guns I've used. Saftey with upgraded gun? Around 350 and up is when it starts to hurt, but pain is subjective. I think at about 300 is where you want to stop if doing CQB You def do NOT want to be playing CQB with 500fps, you will really cause some pain, and some flared tempers. Saftey eq?When my buddies and I played frequently all we used were Ski goggles, they were good, didn't break, were vented, and had absorbant material around the mask for the sweat. Some guys I knew just used real shooting glasses.Others used full paintball masks. However painball masks don't work well with the style of shooting you do with airsoft because your rifle is next to your head and line of vision, this inturn makes it very hard to aim. While with paintball the gun is always in front of your face. All you really need is some eye wear. It's up to you to decide what type you use. If you have regular glasses and think you'll be alright, you won't, they will shatter. I speak from experience :)

    Just remembered these pics, eh. I have video of games we did, but no capture card or anything. Here's my friend Travis. Him and his brother have I think KFC non-blowback 92fs, the sing nothing but praises for how solid they are. 50 bucks too. I think he has said the KFC and KWCs get mixed up easily. One being the crappy one KWC as aranget said, and KFC being the really good one. Springer hand games are the most cheesiest and most fun type games I've played though.

    wow! thanks for the info! so far i was looking towards Airsoft Atlanta, but then i will have to pay sales tax on all the loot, so something out of state may be the way to go. red wolf's site was down last time i tried it, i am planning on going there and seeing what they have. AIRSPLAT seemed to have good stuff also.

    i am in the looking stages, as i would rather buy good stuff, the first time than a bunch of junk. i have a FFL and a large collection of real firearms, as well as several title 2 class 3 guns, as they are legal here in Georgia. i am amazed by how real some of these things look and operate, and how expensive some of them are! there are ar15 airsoft guns that are $1200 !!!! i sold a nice flat top AR15a2 "pre ban" for about half that a few months ago to a friend to make room for a M1A, which i still dont have. the modded MP5 is arounf $300 and the gas full auto sidearms are around $125 + acc and safety stuff. i dont wear glasses, but i used to and i want full face protection as i know these guys were deadly in the military! i have to admit, i was against these things, as a "real" gun owner, as pointing something at someone , to me, meant they were about to die, for real. paintball and airsoft dont seem to be brainwashing any folks i have chatted with. my real pre ban uzi's have always been treated as a real firearm should be by the very few folks i have allowed to personally see my collection. most have never seen the "real" version of the full auto airsoft weapon they know so well. i wish i had my Galil and my MP5 !!! will update later.... Talked to my freind, lol. He said KFC, KHC, KWC, they're all crappy, just some are less crapier then others. KWC non blowback 92 is the one he has. Surprisingly it's lasted a long time. I'll see if I can put you in touch with him since he's more familar with airsoft then I am.

    Oh, the hand gun you're going to get. Is it a Japanese gun, or Tawainese gun? Japanese guns specifically use Japanese gas. The JP gas is less powerful then the Tawainese. A lot of times when you use Tawainese gas in a JP gun can break the seals in the mag which render it useless. Just remember to keep correct gas with your specific gun.

    What's nice about Foreign airsoft places is you pay a lower price. Usually places in the states jack up the price because ppl don't know about the foreign shops. Only thing bad about it is that it takes a few days longer, and customs has to check it out(might not pass).

    You should see some of the airsoft stores "over there" It's like a clothier for airsoft guns!

    the "green gas" has been tested and has been rumored to be propane. i am going to get the propane kit and use it instead of "green gas" at $14 a bottle. the rifle is an ICS MP5 ver 3.0. its supposed to be pretty good. the MAC is the all metal one with the magnesium bolt and upgraded / modded guts. 1200+ rounds is going to be fun. cereal boxes and plastic 2 liter bottles will die in large numbers ! :) may not get the pistol, just the MP5 and the MAC.......... i have 2 real uzi's and would love an airsoft version. the model "A" Uzi is way more fun than my pre ban Model "B"s.

    the realistic WW2 weapons and modern ones are stunning to me. the pics fooled "ME" and i have a FFL and YEAR of time as a collector. real ilenced and full auto weapons are very very expensive, and all the legal crap i had to go thru to get mine, makes the full auto airsoft guns VERY attractive. also , i can shoot them in the house on in the yard and not hurt anyone or go to jail. i have several RWS high powered pellet rifles that i cannot shoot in my backyard as they are hard to build "nice" backstops for. the RWS .22 PELLET gun will easily blow holes through the privacy fence i have. shooting towards my garage with the 2 ferraris inside makes me nevous :) .

    thanks for the contributions to the thread, keep em coming. wish Marranelloman was around as i bet he may be able to add some info here.

    I myself have had limited experience with airsoft, but never committed as I allways thought it would be better to buy a real gun.

    Some things I would like to point out-
    -I don't recomend a gas rifle, it is far easier to get an electric, like a marui.
    -Shooting a full auto AEG MP5, is not as much fun as shooting a real one, especially an SD. :)

    There is also RAP4, which is pretty more realistic but not as popular as airsoft.
    They are modeled after the AR platform, and actually eject shells. They also use paint balls so you can tell if you hit someone.
    However I dont know much about them, so I would do some research.
    http://www.rap4.com/

    Also, dosn't the green gas contain a lube as well? I would be cautious of using propane. However I think you can just lube it manually, but must use silicone lubracant(i beleve) because traditional oils will damage plastic.

    Speaking of airsoft, does anyone know any canadian based sites that sell online? I need a store that already has stock in the country. I lost $300 ordering from a site that claimed to be all canadian but actually ships from the US so customs stopped the item and my money was never refunded.

    I'd advise against using just propane because....

    Green gas has a special oil that's added that conditions the seals and stuff. I believe this oil also lubes the barrel but I'm not positive. The better BB's also have oil to lube the barrel up too, so avoid those cheapos. Speaking of BB's try to avoid the BB's that have paint in them because they have a tendency to blow up and get paint in the barrel. Back to the topic at hand. I do however think that using propane would be a bad idea because it doesn't have the lubricant that Green Gas does. I don't know why, but I like the smell of Green Gas. :) :(

    I think MM wouldn't mind an email shot to him.

    Freind has a Mac11, it's insane how fast it shoots, and how much blowback actions it has, but it eats gas like crazy. I'm not sure if you know this. but their are some guns that are made to use Co2, and it could be used for CQB and mid/long range battles by just anting up the psi or decreasing it when getting in close. No need to upgrade! If I remember correctly the only prob with this is that Co2 powered guns are hard to come by.

    co2 does not compress as well as green gas. and it has less effect on gaskets and metal parts for oxidization related issues.

    Forgive my ignorance but I have always had a few questions about airsoft.

    Why do people play airsoft over paintball? I am assuming that airsoft is played in a way similair to paintball so please correct me if I am wrong. It just seems like it would be much harder to see when you hit someone in airsoft, and then to prove it if need be.

    Airsoft guns are in most cases exact replicas of real guns, where as paintball markers just look like strange drainpipes with triggers. So that’s one appeal

    Secondly airsoft is played at lower speeds and is considered safer due to the light weight of the pellets, typically 2.0g and 6mm in size

    Thirdly airsoft shoots further and more accurately then paintball. Also airsoft guns have a hop up system which keeps the bb flying straight for a lengthy distance before dropping off quite suddenly. Rather than firing in an arc, like paintball

    There are no marks left. The game works on people’s honour. And in my experience this seems to work well. If nobody took hits, there would be no point playing.

    you can tell when you hit somebody as they should should 'HIT' then walk off displaying a coloured marker

    ok, i nicked this off another website

    History

    Airsoft Guns originated in Japan in the 1980s. Tt the end of WWII it became illegal for a Japanese citizen to own a firearm, much like the laws regarding firearms in the UK today. Airsoft guns were born as a safe and respectable alternative to the real thing for basic target shooting, collecting, training and wargame scenarios.
    Basics

    An Airsoft gun is a 1:1 scale replica of a modern day or historical firearm. They are mostly plastic in construction and all fire a 6mm or 8mm plastic BB at very low velocities. Due to the design and construction it is impossible to convert ANY Airsoft gun to fire a real bullet and due to the velocities these products opperate at it would be very difficult to seriously injure someone.
    Application

    Airsoft guns are used in many applications as a replacement to real firearms, now severely restricted to UK citizens, here are just some of their uses:

    * Historical & Modern-day Re-Enactment/Airsoft Games
    * Practical Pistol Shooting
    * Military Cadet Recruitment and Training
    * Target Shooting
    * Collecting

    I would like to expand a little on “Airsoft Games” as this is the major use of these products. Airsoft games are easiest described as Paintball-like games that utilise the realistic nature of Airsoft guns to create a very intense, yet safe, military simulation.

    These games are controlled and run by professional organisations that have governed themselves for years, thanks in part to a lack of interest shown by the government of the day. Full safety precautions are insisted upon and to my knowledge the entire Airsoft community boasts an impressive safety record with no serious injuries being caused by an Airsoft gun to date.

    The appeal of Airsoft games over Paintball and other Wargame alternatives are:

    * Airsoft is cheaper, with ammunition for the guns costing around 0.002 pence per shot.
    * The games provide a realistic military simulation that adds to the experience
    * Participants are able to use military surplus clothing and equipment in order to store additional magazines and ammunition
    * Airsoft guns fire at a lower power than a paintball gun , however due to the size of the ammunition and other technology called “hopup” they fire at a greater range and are far more accurate than your average paintball marker.

    thanks for the replies. i have read the facts about green gas vs propane, and yes i agree that green gas is mixed without the smelly stuff propane is, to detect leaks. i also agree that the green has has a silicone based lube , while propane does not. i must do a bit more homework, but i keep reading that you can lube you bb's in the mag with lube, fill with propane, and save $$$.

    true , the ICS is not a Mauri, but given that i need to buy at least 2 possibly 3 guns + gear asap, i have to budget this stuff. the ferrari's have not sold yet ya know :) . i am still a bit "on the fence", and i really like reading stuff on "arnies airsoft" page.

    as for airsoft vs paintball, my uneducated guess is that it seems the places the really cool airsoft guns come from, thier population cannot own real guns, much less mil spec silenced and full auto stuff. it have a few title 2 class 3 weapons and its a royal pain in the butt to leagal get these guns and all the paperwork, as it should be. if it was cheap and easy, more people would have them. only some states will allow a civilian to own a supressed, short barrel or full auto weapon. its $200 PER SPEC ++++ the cost of the gun. a full auto short barrel Uzi requires 2 $200 tax stamps, and the gun is about $4000 + unless you are "law enforcement" . then you get them super cheap. there are airsoft versions of real weapons that i would love to have, but are too rare, to expensive, or they are just pain "banned" from importation.

    redwolf's site has me concerned as they are overseas and i dont want some "new guy" customs agent to deny them entry. going to buy what available here.

    i only want the mac11 because they are so freaking cool to fire full auto, and airsoft is safe and legal. real SMG's must use subsonic ammo with the supressors to be effective, and the ammo is expensive and becoming regulated, watched and hard to buy. airsoft is "fun" , cheap and safe.

    best thing a civilian can own in a time of civil unrest is a large capacity 12 gauge with a mix of BRI Sabot slugs, buckshot and #7's. if you need more than that, the National Guard will be on the way! :)
