Greetings folks, I finally have my Q3 relatively road worthy, but as a result have uncovered an engine issue. It does not run smoothly and appears to misfire on some cylinders. I have good compression on all of them but discovered play in the crankshaft pulley. It moves about 1/8-inch with the engine stationary. See the image from the parts manual. This tells me that there is play in the shaft on the front of the crankshaft that drives the distributor drive gear, so the ignition timing is most likely bouncing around. I have not yet checked that with a timing light, but regardless, this play has to be fixed. Based on what I see in the manuals, it is either wear on the splines on the shaft that drives the distributor drive (19), splines on the shaft that drives the outer shaft (18) or play in the drive gear splines on the crankshaft (6). Before I start to disassemble the engine, I wanted to cheek to see if there was a knowledge of or experience with this issue out there. Thanks in advance. Marc Trahan Crank play - YouTube
I've had my 1979 4Porte Euro version 5 speed for a long time and am still not certain if I'm running the proper oil filter. Currently using a Purolator PL20252 but I want to be sure it is correct. I can order order one from MIE but was hoping I can get it quickly at a local auto parts store here in the US. Thank in advance for any information. Tony PS: How does one search in this thread only?
The Puroloator website doesn't give a match for the OEM UFI filter part number 27.853.00, but Purolator L30042 comes up as a match for the Baldwin B295 that I use in my QP3. https://www.purolatornow.com/en/part-finder.html
Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing great. Just a brief update on my car. We are rebuilding the front and rear calipers with new pistons and replacing the brake hoses. The rotors and pads are practically new, so we will reuse them. I treated the entire interior to some Lexol leather cleaner and treatment and it looks great. Next on the list is to replace the broken front spring (thank you again Mike!!) and we are going to replace the exhaust system. Car runs and drives well and we are still fixing and improving things as we go through it. I would be interested in adding any brochures, literature or factory goodies that are related to the QPIII. If you have anything for sale, please send me some pics and I will make an offer. There are some really cool press kits that I saw several years ago on the QPIII and have never found one available for sale. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!
Recently, the odometer and trip meter quit working on my Q3. The speedometer works, however, albeit rather optimistic. The unit says that it’s electronic and I am wondering if the odometer/trip meter are mechanical or electronic. Does anyone know? In addition, any thoughts on how to repair this?
It is all electrical. Only the fuel consumption gauge has a vacuum hose to it. The odometer/trip meter electric motor has a gear that drives it, they sometimes break and can be bought on ebay. Mine stopped working but after checking if it spinned freely and inspecting the gear wich turned to be good i plugged it back in and it worked great since. But the main cause is often the broken gear https://www.ebay.com/itm/176257368766?fits=Make%3AMaserati&itmmeta=01J0PBD33QJV9BMM3XG077XV72&hash=item2909c202be:g:rGAAAOSwt9FmOk4m&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8Ox1N%2BQnijgIKJepP%2FLu5Yx6VZRt793xotRf5cuC%2BlLxVoJn9HciSwqPOT0cdXVB%2BJGb86VmdJfo62HOGb8qIZyqlPpG%2B%2BgAu5M0wUs7B17br710tG5nAwSdlPnxOHGpCGw61G1xs1YunYbjBmwC%2B1dAjnZ%2Fh1UMq51sEpHark6llvKFwxbhsr4H9gDh5Hrf0gm7gLBM0r3TH48KEq3phXI%2BvEeyCNla5Q09UAvlcFLTX8zr%2FQQeqy%2FFGMioGJ5F7SiFUPLfnaa5NIiyvvzJJcsho4ULrZXKzPa2OSFlKTdcL0vjxNiFPwotqv9VEcTEDQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBM_rG0y4Vk
Parting out a 1981 Quattroporte. Car is complete and running and driving. Please feel free to shoot me an call or text. I'm located in LOS ANGELES. However, more than open to shipping most things worldwide. Thanks! (213) 318-3701
Sorry for the late response, i believe it is attached with 1 or 2 screws/bolts that you can reach from under the dashboard. You have a removable pannel there and you can reach it trough there. This is from the service manual Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just wanted to make a quick mention that the car I am parting out will be getting completely parted out. Engine is already out, will be dropping rear subframe and front suspension. No piece is too oddball for me to pull, just let me know. Can ship just about anything, just about anywhere.
Hi everyone, I have been really enjoying running around in the newly ressurected 1985 German Market Quattroporte III. Car runs great and is a lot of fun to drive. Folks lose their minds seeing this thing on the road. I am looking to replace the twin chrome round tail pipes on the car. The tailpipes on my car are dented and rusted out. Where is the best place to get replacement tail pipes? I want it to look original. Thanks! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Mitch... I would think any reputable muffler shop should be able to cut the old chrome tips off and weld on new ones! The car looks great! Mike
Hello! regarding the tailpipes, I would be quite tempted by this whole ANSA rear setup at Maserati compound-in Oklahoma I think?? Looks great and I think NOS. They also have a variety of other ANSA tailpipes, mostly twin ones though. Hope that helps. Mark. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Who would like a brand new QIII that's been armored? I can't imagine the armored part but hey this looks like new, probably better than new car! https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1682271
Lord that must weigh nearly 4 tonnes! Poor suspension and brakes. Should have a custom badge reading Quattroportely.
Hi everyone, hope this message finds you all very well. I just wanted to give you an update on my 1985 European version Quattroporte. I bought a new ANSA rear exhaust section for the car from TRutlands/Motion Products and I should have it tomorrow! Sure as heck wasn't cheap but this will look SOOOO much better than the hacked up rusted rear section on the car now.
I am re-restoring my 1985 Quattroporte as a result of the hood opening while I was driving it a couple of years ago. I bought a black parts car off eBay located 10 minutes from where my car is located in Broward County given that I needed the windshield, trim, and hood off that car. I was hoping - as an added bonus and through wishful thinking - to use the leather from the parts car to redo the 2 fronts seats off mine... but, grown tired of each and every upholsterer contacted these past few weeks passing on the job because they want to redo either both seats entirely, or the complete interior of the vehicle as they benefit more that way. All four door panels, the dash, center console + arm rest, rear seats, A/B/C pillars are in good-to-above average shape on my car so re-doing the entire interior is unnecessary. The 'front part' of the driver and passenger seats, not so much... The leather has darkened years ago to the point of no return and I much prefer buying 2 front seats from someone, than getting to 'trust' an upholsterer who has never worked on these cars, to pay him for a mystery outcome. Well, at least in SoFla that's how it works anyway - the customer is not right and, should be thankful for the service being provided in the first place. This, unless I am the only one who has experienced this a few times? Eliminating doubt, my path to least resistance is to hopefully purchase 2 front seats in good condition. Due to shipping costs, ideally here in the US? Years ago when the car was first restored (by a shop who stole the money and parts, and did not complete the work, which is another damn story), I had bought a considerable amount of original leather to redo the seats then but, got ripped off and then some too. I realize this was a highly unusual happenstance of being dealt low blows by these shops, but the goal remains for me to get my car to look as good as possible and the current 2 front seats are no go. The parts car will be marketed for sale with the parts removed off mine and installed on it whenever my car has been completed. If someone has a pair of seats that do not have stains, holes, unusual amounts of cracks, discoloration, scratches, etc. - please send me a direct message. I posted an ad on the QP III FB group last night and scammers are out in force to scam, which is a sad state of affairs that we all live in these days. I thought that a FB group dedicated to these very particular cars would somehow be better insulated from the garbage that preys on individuals like you and I, but... So, it is my hope someone has a pair of seats or knows someone that could have a pair of seats. I am not opposed to buying the leather only from the seats, as I don't need 3 sets of front seats and somehow would have to convince an upholsterer that they could do it - reminds of mechanics these days, that prefer replacing parts vs. fixing them
Hi everyone I have been meaning to show you guys this poster that has been hanging up in my old bedroom at my parent's house in Dunwoody, GA. My father had a black over tan 1986 QP3 and he got me this poster decades ago and its been hanging up in my childhood bedroom since then! Have you ever seen a QP3 factory poster?? How cool is this? Hi everyone, I recently bought a new ANSA rear exhaust section for my 85 QPIII European version car. Jim Weed in Suwanee, GA installed the system for me. New hardware, new hangers and I asked him to clear-coat the orange paint on the tips to enable me to clean it easily. It looks and sounds SO good right now! Anyway, what do you guys think? You like how this looks?
